I live chatted with a rep from store.sony.com yesterday regarding pricing for the 2014 W950B and she tried to really push the W900A for $1399 at me.  Just an FYI.

Any thoughts?

Thanks to all.

Lawrence.

Have you made sure to turn off the Light sensor in the Eco menu? it's on by default and made the biggest PQ gain when I turned it off.

They gave me $1700 flat... I guess that was the price on the Sony web store. I tried to price match JR.com at $1599 but they were sold out online so no go on the price match there.

This is pretty good deal. Any pointers how to get it thru live chat?

Thanks

Abes of Maine has it for $1649 with free shipping no tax and comes with a wall mount. Also there is a $15 coupon code to get it down to $1634 out the door.

Also, wondering if some of the HD channels you are talking about were not broadcasting HD content at the time you were looking at them. If you have an over the air antenna and can look at HD content that way you should be quite amazed at the quality, especially on 1080i channels with 1080i HD content being broadcast. I do notice a haze or veil on some channels some times but it is usually before 8 PM and because the content is not in HD.

Yes, it showed $1999 yesterday as well.  I chatted with a rep named Janelle.

I've had my tv about three weeks now. I'm enjoying it so much. I would like to calibrate my tv. Which is a good calibration disc? I'm a noob at all this. Thank you in advance

Evening all. Been lurking for a month or so, have read about 95% of the thread. Am pretty close to pulling trigger on a W900A. Was looking at the store tonight, and the picture seemed pretty blah. It was curling from the Olympics (blah in itself!) And the colors seemed "muddy" as in dark, none of the "Pop" you guys have described, and it seemed to be lacking the "crisp sharp" picture I'm used to in HD. The feed was a Comcast feed using a HDMI splitter if that helps. I played with the settings a little, (eco was off) but couldn't get the pic to match the 802a and the Samsung F7100 on either side. Ice looked very dirty as well.

I've got them at a good price, but the picture quality has given me reason to pause. Could it be a "well used" demo set, poor signal or bad settings? Given how good the others looked, I dont suspect bad feed.

Help? Im coming from a well used Kdl40xbr3 that still has a nice image if that helps.

I do some gaming, but TV will be primary for TV (Satellite) and movies over blu ray.

Im trying to buy one right now/this weekend also

Bestbuy @ $1745 seems ok with me, better then taking my chances on a webstore and i can pick it up same day

Needs some help on getting this or lets say a 7500 series Samsung 55" which is about the same price (7500 has quad core)

I am all about gaming, even netflix is streamed through ps3/ps4 which has led me to the 802a and 900a Sony's

The pic quality your seeing at the store may be due to how they have it set up. I don't think you would be disappointed with the W900.

If your all about gaming then the W900 is for you due to it has the best lag times for an LED/LCD tv. Not to mention the PQ is simply outstanding.

Try Disney's WOW Blu ray calibration disc. If your doing your own calibration this is a good way to go.

Well i just bought it, now waiting for store to call when ready to be picked up

(excited)

Got it at BB for $1725. Just got it home and watching Workaholics... Out of the box, this TV is blowing my mind. I can't imagine how it could get better once calibrated. I'll report back after. Anybody on the fence... this is a STEAL at $1725, and if you can get it cheaper, more power to you.

Are you paying for the Disney WOW disc or is it a special offer with Sony TVs?

I got the WOW disc when I got my HX850 from Sony. It came with the TV. Don't know if Sony is offering it anymore.

Thanks. Am going to bring a blu ray or two tomorrow and will play. They are matching Best Buy pricing of $1745 (locally owned store) and are throwing in a free 3d Blu ray player. Am going to look to try a couple of your settings as well. Great website, thanks for all the posts!!!

I bought mine at Best Buy nearly two weeks ago for $1745. I decided to skip the Geek Squad warranty.

I'm very impressed with this TV. The picture looked OK on the showroom floor but it is much better at home playing a BluRay disc.

The last TV I bought was in 2007...a Sony 46W3000. That TV is still going strong but the difference in the colors is like night and day. I paid $2200 for the 46W3000 in 2007, so at $1745 this TV seems like a bargain. Hopefully this one will be just as reliable.

Currently watching game of thrones s3 with cnet settings (with reduced backlight + clear plus). Mind blowing picture and excellent blacks even in a pitch black room.

I've had 3 55kdlw900A TV's since last June ($2,399) which I bought from Best Buy. Also took the 5 yr extended service plan. You have to deal with Sony on warranty issues until the set is one year old. Sony sent me my 3rd set about 3 weeks ago (bad mother board which they changed and then panel went bad) and just can't seem to get the right picture settings. Set out of the box has horrible colors. You must constantly play around with the settings. I gave up with this TV yesterday and now Sony is sending me a 4th set. I've tried about 10 different picture settings that have been posted over time, with no luck. Guess each panel is different. BestBuy use to give you a free calibration which they now charge for, not sure what the price is. Good luck with your purchase many forum members love the set.

I recently saw on the Sony website that the new W950b will be about the same price as the current price of the W905a. This makes me wonder if the W905a is considered a higher ranked model?
Too bad I didn't know before that the pricing would be that good, since the W950b does have some interesting features like an IPS panel (better angles) and passive 3D. I don't know if the black levels will be a good as the W905 though.

Having said that I do think that the W905 is an excellent tv. I am just curious about the differences in the panels and would certainly like to have compared these two models. But I guess we will know as soon as the reviews start coming in of the W950.

Yes, I will be calibrating it myself. I'll get that. Thank you again!

I have been following this thread, the Visio M series thread, and a couple samsung threads for about 4 months now. I decided to pull the trigger on this tv and let me tell you that I am 100% happy that I did. This thing is gorgeous. I do a decent amount of gaming and this set excels in that department. I'm coming from a samsung LN46A650 which I've loved for about 4 years. Thanks to everyone who post on these forums. It made my decision easy smile.gif

P.s. What do you predict the lifespan of this beautiful tv will be?

Wow 4 sets!!! Can I ask what the problems were? I have the dark bands on the sides of the display and I'm wondering if it is worth it to try an exchange... If nothing else is wrong maybe I should just stick with what I've got? Basically besides that I'm pretty in love with my set...

I will be getting my W900 sometime next week so I am very much looking forward to it. Its replacing my 46HX850 which in of itself is an excellent tv. But its only a 46 and I wanted to go bigger and since the 850 is no longer made I settled on the W9. Trust me I did extensive research on it, read what seemed like a million reviews and got alot of advise on here and from others outside of AVS and they all had nothing but positive things to say about the W9 and they all said it was a very suitable replacement for the 850. Some even said the W9 could have been listed as an XBR if it weren't for the 4K Sony models. So I pulled the trigger. I hope it impresses when I finally get it next week because it has big shoes to fill in replacing my 850. We shall see.
