Haven't hooked BluRay player yet will do so later today and check out the difference.

Color seems to get better every day, tweak a little here and there.

Can any one tell my why Geek Squad will hot come out to calibrate TV until it has been playing for 100 hours.

Does the TV have an internal clock accumulating on time?

Thanks

Best Buy 100 hours rule meant for plasma TVs. I really don't know why they are extending it to LED as well. LEDs don't have a break-in period like plasma sets do.

That is odd but maybe it's because they want to make sure they don't calibrate and then the customer returns the set (30 day return).

Yeah that's the most likely explanation.

I'm within the 15 day return limit for the next 2 days... should I try exchanging it for another set or just stick with what I have. I'm guessing the clouding would be different in a different set of the same model. Maybe worse, maybe better. I'm just not sure if I want to go down that road or not but I don't want to get stuck with this in an expensive set if I just got unlucky.

I can't see the clouding with typical viewing but obviously it's quite noticeable in very dark scenes or with a black screen. Also, I was looking at the screen with a pure white image and could see some yellow and blue tinting toward the edges of the screens. Is this normal?

Just got a great deal on the SONY KDL55W900A 55inch from Best Buy and I am paying less than any of the list prices on amazon, walmart, best buy etc. Told them I couldn't come home to the wife unless they matched the no tax from amazon (they subtracted the tax amount from the sales price but I still ultimately had to pay tax on top of that) and then got them to come under that price a little. Managed to save 75 bucks over Amazon and everywhere else when all was said and done which isn't a lot but everything helps at this price level. I definitely want to get an extended warranty from somewhere. Any recommendations? I have 15 days from today to purchase Geek Squad. Should I do it? What about square trade? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 7 month old at home and I am terrified she is going to throw something at the TV but I don't think any warranty will cover that. However, I live in South Florida and the lightning and power surges are really bad in the summer. Pretty sure lightning hit my house last night although my old xbr4 was plugged in and is fine.

Finally, I was thinking mono price the whole way for HDMI cables but Best Buy tried to pressure me into buying allegedly higher quality cables which conveniently for them cost 200 a piece. I didn't bite. Any truth to that though?

Hey Guys,

First post!

I am hoping for a little info on the W900a in terms of motion when in "Game Mode". I currently have an HX850 and use it a lot for gaming. I am quite happy with it in terms of input lag, but I can't help but think there is a problem with motion on the HX850 when in Game Mode with motionflow off. I have read a couple of reviews that mention overdrive trailing, now I can't see any ghosting as such, but in games such as the recent "The Last of us" when I pan the camera there is always a nasty judder/smearing that goes with it, particularly in bright areas. I don't know whether its moving from a 32" TV to this 46" Sony but something doesn't look quite right to me.

Does anyone know if the HX850 is prone to poor motion when gaming and would the W900a be any better in this regard?

Would I see any benefit in terms of gaming motion/blur if I changed my HX850 for a W900a, or is there not much difference besides input lag/trimuous display?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dex

Sorry double post for some reason.

Holy crap, how do you get it into Game Mode.

I remember when I first got the TV I found it and can't for the life of me figure it out again.

If clouding is still visible after LED Dynamic Control is set on standard that's unacceptable (IMO). Instead of exchanging it's better to return and then repurchase.

Kept seeing all the posts about clouding and had to look into it.

Now that I did, holy crap I can't believe that can happen on these panels. With that being said I have no clouding on my panel whatsoever and would highly recommend anyone who has experienced it to return the panel and buy it anew.

Just like others have said returning the set and getting a new one would be best IF it is bugging you. Some clouding is acceptable to me personally only if its visible on pure black screen. If I can see it during darker scenes I can't handle it. I went through 3 separate panels with Samsung ES8000 and all had terrible clouding. In the end I got my money back and got the W900.

Many would recommend getting SquareTrade from Costco for only $99 for 3 years. It's the best deal by far. I have one myself. As far as cables go do not buy expensive hdmi cables. Monoprice, Mediabridge or Amazon Basics are great cables and expensive cables will not make any difference quality wise. Don't listen to Best Buy.

I'm not sure if the W900A would be much better. LCDs just have poor motion resolution without features like Motionflow. If you don't like it and if enabling Motionflow introduces too much input lag, you may want to consider a fast plasma TV.

I'm trying to find the best HDTV under 1600 to use as a second display used primarily for gaming and I'm leaning toward plasma because they offer a more blur-free image or Sony's W802A.

Thanks for the reply. I have always gamed on LCDs, the image retention issue has always scared me away from plasma's. I think the fact that I've been gaming on a 32" for 5 years and then suddenly jumped to a 46" hasn't helped with the motion issues either smile.gif, as it looks more noticeable on the larger screen.

I have also noticed that gaming with 30fps games on consoles produces a lot more of this judder, so hopefully when the PS4 comes along, a lot more games will be 60fps, and this judder will be less of an issue. Cheers.

CrimsonJoker did you read the W900 review on HDTV Test? They rate the W900 the best TV for gaming with a lower
lag than the best Plazma!
I bought the W9 because I plan to get the PS4 and Xbox one. So far I couldn't be happer with it. Sure if you have a game where you move the camera around quickly there will be blur. That will happen with every TV.
However the colors and contrast on this TV is awesome. Plus it puts out some really inky blacks.
Been playing Last of Us and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and they just look beautiful.
Ive been playing with the game original setting, with all the processing set to off. It's still looks great.
Find a retailer with a W9 on display and ask you could connet a PS3 or Xbox to it. I did when the systems
First came out. I bought the W9 sight unseen I had that much confidence in it.

Thanks very much, that's a great idea. I will try and get to my local store at the weekend and take my console with me, and have a good play around it.

Did you get it close to $2112.99 + tax? That's what a few of us got the one day buy.com had it advertised for that price a couple of weeks ago? smile.gif

God. Still can't believe I got this TV as a replacement for my HX800 (Sony replaced it) considering I only paid $750 for the HX. Should've turned around and sold this unit for a profit.
Thinking about picking this TV up tomorrow. I was looking at the new 65 4K set and thinking about picking it up but I'm concerned that input lag might be an issue plus all the issues with HDMI 1.4 not supporting 4K at higher than 30hz. So my question for those of you with this set is could you post some pics of the same scene in a game with game mode on and off? I'd like to see how much worse the PQ is with game mode enabled.

I'm currently stuck with a horrid Samsung display that has TONS of input lag so the low input lag of this TV is very appealing to me. Is the picture adjustable in game mode as well? The Samsung I have looks terrible in game mode and still has tons of input lag despite.

Thanks in advance for the help.
There are two game modes and both are fully adjustable. Ive been using game "original" with some tweaks to the setting. I mostly just turned down the contrast. I'm attaching a pic of the last of us. If you plan to do a lot of gaming you won't be disappointed.
FYI Sony Style has a sale on this TV. With an employee discount (which many non-Sony employees might have) it's below the prices mentioned above..

OMG that makes me so angry.  This HDMI crap has got to stop.  Good for you for not buying into that.

Monoprice or MediaBridge are good bets.  You shouldn't pay 1/10th of what BB was talking about.

Hi guys/gals. My first post.
Thanks for all the info in this thread.

I had a KDL55EX720. It died on 8th March this year(1yr old) so I reported fault to Sony.
Come May...2 months later and still not fixed.
Bragged about this on Sony's Facebook page, and got instant responses.

After 2 emails and a few phone calls to & from Sony, they ordered me a new replacement, KDL55W900A.

The 55W900A's were due to be in Australia around 7th June.
In the mean time,Sony will fix up extended warranty and I received a new Skype camera/microphone for the TV.

Yesterday....I finally got to swap my dead KDL55EX720 for the new KDL55W900A.

I am loving this TV so far. I fiddled around with picture settings but still, I know there are better tweaks and came across Xitmans settings & will try these settings out later.
3D is pretty amazing, much better than my EX720

My TV is connected to my Yamaha RX-V471 5.1 Receiver. Upgrading in July. Possibly to Denon receiver and Klipsh speakers.

Skype's integration is great IMO. Easy to setup and connect. Picture quality is good to view and audio is flawless.
SEN (Sony Entertainment Network) has a lot to offer with games and programming for all.

To Sony's credit, thanks for offering me a substantially upgraded TV.
AU$ prices are first glance $3996 for the 55W900A and $2296 for the 55W800A.

I would have bought a W800a, but happier I received the W900A thanks to Sony.
DeviousVRX glad you're enjoying the new TV. You should look at the new Sony STR-DN1040 receiver.
It's getting great review and packs a ton of features, 8 HDMI, wifi, AirPlay etc. Best of all you can use Bravia Sync.
I bought it and couldn't be happier.
I had a good luck at the TV today at my local electrical store and was very impressed. Luckily they already had a PS3 hooked up to the TV so I asked to have a play. Unfortunately I was told that all the games they had had been stolen, people were ejecting the games and walking off with them eek.gif

So I asked if I could bring a selection of my games in and have a good game on the TV, and was told to just bring them in.

I will be going Tuesday evening so I will share my thoughts and comparisons with the HX850.
So, I'm torn between the f8000/7500 and the sony W900A.

Really what it's coming down to is samsungs smart features (particularly second screen ability) but high input lag (40+ ms) vs sony's amazing input lag (<10ms) but average smart features.

I am a big gamer, but also living with my SO and it'll be the only tv for a little while, so the second screen feature (allowing me to play games on the tv with her watching tv on the ipad) would be nice.

Any thoughts?
As I said before I'm also a big gamer and that's why I bought the W9. Of course I use it for TV and movies as well. But for games the combo of color, contrast, black levels and low lag can't be beat on the W9 IMO.
