Admittance is by invitation only, so if you didn't get an invite, you probably can't get in.

Figured as much, thanks but it's more of a time-issue for me - living/working here (NYC) for many years I can usually pull some strings and get in anywhere but I have some stuff I want to get done this week and I don't want to pass it to anyone else (y'know, you're never sure it's fully done unless you did it...wink.gif)

50GB BD can easily support UHD, period.

Period? A 50gb 4K BD movie would look horrible @ this point in time, even with H.265. A 20 minute 4K could easily work on a 50gb BD

Seriously: just what the hell are you talking about? Horrible...? 20 minutes? I use 4K raw stuff here, please, define 'horrible'...
A great-looking 1080p 7.1 movie in h.264 is around 20-25Mb/s, so a 3-hr movie fits onto a single 25GB BD. Now UHD is ~4x more pixels (2 vs 8.3M), granted but h.265/HEVC is already around 40% or more efficient so a ~2.5-hr UHD movie w/ 7.1 audio should fit on a double-capacity 50GB disc.

1080p 7.1 movie squeezed on a 25gb BD:eek: Yuck!, I couldn't handle it, I must be a high rez snob. Why not go for the highest rez possible with what's available?

Absolutely true here. I've seen some pretty compressed Blu-ray's and was not impressed. Numbers don't tell you everything when it comes to compression codecs. It has to look and sound great too.

Scott will you be able to ask questions @ the event? If so or if not ask around about 4K, BDXL. thanks, you were probably going to ask anyways

imagic, since you guys are invited i'm guessing there will definitely be HT related news? Do you have any inside info on we can expect?

4K is a no brainer. I think it's going to be through downloads though. Unless Andy Parsons walks on stage and announces the new 4K spec with 200GB disc.

OMG I hope they do something about that... while I have the sony BD remote it's a pain to say you are in netflix and say you want to change a video setting and you know you have to exit the app, then wait for it to flash to the main screen then go to settings.. It's a huge time waster if you do stuff like that.. More so if you are gaming and forgot to connect the bluetooth headset and having to leave the game to do so.

They can keep UHD--I'll want a dedicated player or media server for that. I may be in the minority here, but I just want powerful graphics capabilities and hi-res audio for gaming. Give me superior A/V, or give me a GTX 680 for roughly the same (assumed) price.

4K downloads can't be feasible at this point in time. It would take for ever to download, you won't be able to download that many movies on a 1 TB drive. Unless you are able to burn 4K movies on BDXL disc's;) Andy Parsons does not have to be there, that would be cool though to introduce BDXL, its already part of the blu ray spec officially since June 2010 albeit just the burn versions

Agreed. In addition, I would hope they allow you to basically pause the game (or in some cases let it continue to run), but pull up a picture in picture (or some fancy slightly transparent sidebar deal) with menu and social media options.. Like if I am playing an online game and am waiting for opponents to join a match (or any other downtime for that matter), it would be nice to QUICKLY pop up my facebook feed or check my email, etc.. When I game now (which honestly isn't that often in relation to how much I've posted recently on ps4 threads! lol), I almost always have my laptop open next to me and am cruising the net during cutscenes or when waiting for opponents, etc. I would expect less load times, but there will undoubtedly be some downtime. If I can do my internet browsing on the same screen that I am waiting for in-game downtime- That would be awesome.

Don't you want UHD gaming? If not then what's the point of upgrading to a PS4?

As Crysis 1 taught us, resolution is just a small part of outstanding graphics....shaders, lighting, mapping, and other gpu steroids are what make a graphical stunner.

Playing through Crysis 3 with a 7950 I am very impressed. I though Just Cause 2 and Far Cry 3 looked great. However, from every rumor so far the PS4 and Xbox 720 have a Radeon 7770.

PLEASE ask about backwards compatibility with PS3 games.  I know Sony is trying to push out some last minute PS3 blockbuster games this year but I'd rather wait and spend money on the next-gen system if the games coming out this year won't be playable on it.

Also, take these last minute rumors with a grain of rice:

PS4 prototype controller picture leaks

GameStop CFO says 60% of gamers won't buy console that blocks pre-owned games

Studio already working on Killzone 4 for PS4

PS4 selling point is 'not hardware', but play options

PS4 to cost $430, launch in November in North America?

PlayStation Cloud suggested by domain registrations

Ask about MKV support please.

$5 says it has some 4K playback capability. 4K movie playback should be relatively easy and inexpensive to add to the PS4 if they use the h.265 codec. They already have the BDXL drive, it already has CPU/GPU power. They expect it to have a 10 year shelf life, so it would be obsolete much quicker if it didn't. The Chinese are ready to sell 4K 55" to 64" displays below $4000 later this year. So it is coming much faster than you think. Now 4K gaming is another story. To render the graphics in real time at an acceptable 50-60fps would really max it out, so I would guess games might be capped at 2880×1800.

Does anyone know if they typically have a Q and A after these types of events and/or give additional information to the media then what was covered in the event? I mean are we all going to know what they want to tell us as soon as we watch it or will additional information come to us in articles and videos over the following days to come?

Gran Turismo is my game. When GT6 hits, then I'll get a PS4. My wife just bought me a Classic White PS3 to replace my refurb replacement Fat PS3.

Yes please Scott, ask about those points if possible. Also ask that if the ps4 will be able to support ssd read/writespeeds this time around. And if we will still be able to install disc games just like on ps3. Thanks.

The venue fits over 2.000 people, nearly all of whom will be journalists and investors. The chances of any one individual attendee getting their question answered by the powers that be seems unlikely. It's much more likely that I'll get my hands on a press packet that goes into some detail. After the show, I'll have plenty of time to sort through it all. I'll gather as much info as possible. I'm guessing your question gets answered within the first few minutes of the official presentation.

Errr, no, they will have something based on Pitcairn (7870), according to every rumors, with probably less rendering power but if you take out the Windows tax and add the incredible optimization you can achieve over years you might end up with something like 7870/7970 in a few years...

Good luck, yesterday evening it seemed I might just get in through someone at Sony but I cannot go anywhere today (kid is sick, I'm working from home.)

Really looking forward to this event - one feature I hope Sony hasn't overlooked is the inclusion of native-IR capability for easier integration into a HT setup and universal remotes. The need to purchase a separate BT->IR would be silly, IMO.
