Bungie's Destiny - Page 3

Nope, only code I received was for a free wallpaper. Either I need to wait a bit longer or I missed it and they hit the quota. If I don't get one by the end of the week I figure they ran out.

Same here.

I'm not sure that I'm "feeling" the art style that they are going with. When I first saw the concept art , it looked amazing, but having seen the most recent video, I'm not sure.. Some things look really impressive, but other things look kind of, dare I say it.... lame ?. I'm not sure what to think, but I'm sure the gameplay will be good if nothing else. It's just my gut instinct reaction after seeing the most recent video, so may all the Bungie faithful please forgive me.

Heh, I'm the complete opposite. The initial teaser reveal did very little for me. The full reveal looked fun, and this latest video has me geeking out for more info.

Speaking of which, here's a new Q&A with Bungie from the PlayStation blog:
Quote:
The team at Bungie is hard at work on Destiny, a vast and dangerous adventure that pierces the depths of the galaxy, tasking players with the defense of humanity. Bungie just recently revealed the cover art for Destiny, showcasing the awe-inspiring Guardians in all their cloaked glory. And yesterday, the beta was formally announced. It’s been a busy week.

With so much talk of Destiny in the air, you might have a few questions about this sci-fi, multiplayer shooter. That’s why we submitted your inquiries to Bungie’s Community Manager DeeJ, so he could shine a light in the black of space.

Read on for tons of details from DeeJ himself, including how easy you can drop into public events with other players, and what sorts of ways you can customize your Guardian.

@Zarshark: What does Destiny do that’s unique? What’s revolutionary that sets it apart?

DeeJ: Destiny casts you in the role of the iconic hero, and sets you on an epic journey brimming with heart-pounding action within a living world filled with adventure. You’ll cross paths with other brave heroes on their own quests — story, cooperate, and competitive — and they’ll know exactly how powerful and awesome you are just by looking at the gear you’ve earned.

@Tra_Royal: How many players can team up in Destiny?

DeeJ: Our core cooperative nucleus is the Fireteam — a group of three Guardians bound together by blood (and netcode). But whether you’re going it alone, of linked up with a Fireteam, you can still encounter other Guardians as you tackle the larger challenges that you’ll find in public events.

There’s no telling how many people you might have to work with to defeat the most dangerous enemies. Of course, other modes like competitive multiplayer, or Raids, will feature player counts well above three — but we’re not talking about those quite yet. Stay tuned!

@bo_srwa_w_fnila: How does joining a public event work?

DeeJ: To join a public event, all you have to do is get within range, and open fire. No lobbies. No loading screens. The frontier is open, and filled with encounters you can join, or skip right past, on your way to something you’ve deemed momentarily more important.

@LazySigh: Will there be PvP?

DeeJ: Yup! We’re already thumping each other’s skulls in studio-wide playtests, battling other Guardians for glory, bragging rights, and rewards. All the gear you earn in competitive multiplayer can be taken into other modes, too (and vice versa)!

@jaydawg6958: I like to play games solo often. How much can I do alone?

DeeJ: Ah, the proverbial Lone Wolf. You can experience Destiny’s story as a party of one, assuming you’re that much of a badass. Destiny will never require you to team up with other people in campaign missions. You’ll see other players along the way, but you can choose to ignore them. That said, we think you’ll find that playing with other Guardians is quick, painless, and a ton of fun. It’s always your choice, though.

‏@jaydawg6958: How deep does the customization go?

DeeJ: All the way down to your bones! Well, maybe not that far, but Destiny will be what you make of it.

All of the weapons and gear you can earn in Destiny can be customized — some more than others, but the goal is to let every player tell a story through the gear and abilities they’ve earned and wear. You create a character, pick a class, gender, and race, and then you customize the way you look and fight by completing missions, defeating enemies, or maybe just by exploring the world.

@knox140: How big is the world map? I’m really excited!

DeeJ: Bigger than anything Bungie has ever built. We no longer have mission designers, but world designers, instead. They’re building places worth visiting, exploring, and reclaiming from your enemies.

We’re excited, too! We can’t wait to see what you’ll do when you get in there. We’ll be watching!

@hell_razorX: ‏What kind of endgame things are you planning on implementing to keep this world alive after players have finished?

DeeJ: We’re creating a world you’ll want to visit again and again, and it will evolve and change right alongside you. We’re going to fill it up with activities that we think will satisfy a lot of different types of players, or even the different moods you have.

That might mean something really challenging on the cooperative front, like a Raid. It might mean that amazing, exotic Sniper Rifle that you’ve been drooling over for the last few months. It might even mean the new twist we’ve put on the as-of-yet-unrevealed game type that makes it feel new and different.

Success! Received my code for the beta from Amazon, time stamp 12 midnight Oct. 3., so they weren't lying about starting on or after today. The wait begins for spring-ish beta launch.

I am waiting until Monday to place my pre-order because I want to do the free 2 day shipping with a trial of Prime and since I know I will forget to cancel it before the month is out I need to make sure the $79 bills hits at the beginning of my paycheck lifecycle and not towards the end. I just hope they are still offering codes come Monday.

is the pre-order only limited to a disc version? I would pre-order but I don't want to be saddled with the requirement of having the disc in the system everytime I want to play it.

Don't even worry about it with Amazon, since they don't charge orders until they ship. You can always cancel it closer to ship date then buy a digital code from them or directly on PSN if you want.

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but their pre-order bonuses are just perks to go with them for such and not really for actually buying the game. It's a carrot.

I was not aware you could do that. So you are saying I can pre-order now with 2 day shipping and then go back and update it when I do prime to get that $8 shipping charge wiped out.? If so I will have to do that today at work.

Not sure if I'd do it that way. Just order now w/ standard shipping. Once your Prime is added to your account, you can change the shipping speed from standard to 2-day.

Just a note. I really enjoyed the Q and A's. I learn more here than most other forums. keep it up! Is there any recent news if Bungie has anything in store for the holidays, ei. special discounts or on Destiny or revealing the beta date?

It was revealed at the special GameTrailers/SpikeTV "All Access" event during the Playstation Store Launch that the PS3/PS4 will receive access to the Beta first (still no confirmed date for the Beta--last reports were early 2014.) Source: http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/11/14/destiny-at-ps4-all-access/.

Also, Bungie debuted a new trailer. I didn't post it in this thread because it is VERY similar to the Moon Trailer they did about a month and a half ago, but for those who did not get to see it in the run-up to the PS4, here it is:

Today is your lucky day! Game Informer just revealed that Destiny is their Cover Game for the January 2013 issue.

In addition to the feature article on Destiny, they will be having extra/extended content on their site all through January to promote the game. Here is their main site devoted to all of their Destiny content: www.gameinformer.com/destiny.

They've also put together a teaser trailer for some of their upcoming video documentary content:

I saw a tweet yesterday or the day before mentioning 2 months to go. So - that would put it at the first week of February.

When I saw you guys posting I became concerned I missed it! The code I received from Amazon back in October gave me a free wallpaper AND put me on the list to get a beta invite on Bungie.net. As of today my profile reads:
Quote:
Code Already Redeemed

Destiny Beta Reservation:

Platform selection and Beta download code generation will be available in 2014. An email will be sent to your verified email address when beta download codes are available.

My code arrived from Amazon immediately as well. All it does is reserve your spot in the beta when it begins in 2014 so we're still waiting.

In the newest Game Informer article, The Surprising Evolution of Destiny's Art, they have a video that mentions Star Wars as a vibe they were looking for when starting to design the game. They also mentioned a classic 1980's cartoon that made me smile: Thundarr the Barbarian! Two of my favorite series when I was growing up, both of them appealed to the inner kid in me. If Bungie can pull this off, this is going to be EPIC! Way to rock it Old School, Bungie! biggrin.gif

Upfront I dont like Activision so chances of me actually buying this game are >1%, however I am curious enough to want to try the beta, so my question is:

If i pre-order, get into and play beta, am I still able to cancel pre-order?

I'm sure Activision has no way to track your particular order. Amazon.com will let you cancel a pre-order until they ship it, so you should be fine if you end up hating the game. It's what I plan to do if I end up not liking what they're selling.

Destiny launches 9/9/14

Boooooooo!!!

Destiny was my Titanfall/XBone counter. If it is as good as it looks, then I could hold off on dual wielding both consoles. Maybe FFXIV when it releases on PS4 will keep me busy enough to ignore what appears like it's going to be a whole lot of shooter gaming goodness on the ol' XBone.

Anyway, it will be done when it's done!
