I didn't really spot shimmering or sparkles but I must say I don't know how it looks like ( I was nevertheless looking for it).
The DNP with gain 0.8: lot of contrast, very good blacks, extreme viewing angle without colour or brightness shift. Not for 3d because of the brightness. Very smooth surface. NO hotspot.
The DNP with gain 2.3: lot of contrast, good blacks, good viewing angle without colour shift but with however a very smooth drop in brightness as you go on the sides of the screen. Perfect for 3d because of the brightness. Very smooth surface. Can't tell for the hotspot right now but I will be seeing the screen in full size in a few weeks...
I'm coming back from a DEMO of the DNP supernova with gain 2.3 and this time with a full size screen. One word: WOW!!
What I said earlier with the sample is always true. What I can add:
- excellent light control. The show room was not at all black out and you could put the light on just over the screen and still have vivid colors and a wonderful bright picture with a lot of contrast!
- excellent viewing angle for a 2.3 screen gain. Not as good as with the gain 0.8 DNP supernova since I could tell there was a very very smooth brightness shift as I went next to the screen ( 90° angle!) and I could not with the gain 0.8 screen from DNP. But still very watchable even from this position. I've seen the french "DAYLIGHT from Xtrem screen" with a gain fron only 1.4 a few days ago and it was VERY sensible to the angle (half gain with 60°) in comparison!
- sparkling is there, no doubt. But it was once again OK for such a high gain screen. Still for 2D blu-ray viewing, it would be for me to distracting, but for sport, video games, and 3D blu-ray (the drop of brightness with the glasses on reduced the sparkles effect), it's perfect!)
- I didn't see a hot spot. Neither did my girl friend. However the guy presenting the product could see it. In fact he told me he didn't like high contrast gray screen at all since he coud always see the influence of the gray color on the screen. But I personally couldn't see it.
