Question regarding speaker cable

I have two outside speakers on my balcony and the speaker cable wasn't long enough, i didn't calculate the lenght so i had to buy extra cable and i put the two together using electrical tape. My question is Do you lose quality on the audio signal by doing this and if you do is it something you can hear? i really couldn't tell the difference because to me the speakers sound "allright".

Can someone give me their honest opinion, without turning this into another speaker wire debate?

What you've done should work fine, but I would suggest using solder or at least wire nuts rather than electrical tape. That stuff is really meant to insulate. That being said, what you've done could last for years, so long as nobody trips over the wires or something.

Yeah it has worked fine, i just wanted to hear anybody's input regarding sound quality loss or not.

I would not expect any sound quality loss so long as the connections you've made are tightly twisted and held firmly.

Good plan. If the wire nuts are going to be in the weather I would RTV the open end to keep moisture out. (RTV aka silicone adhesive)

A better solution is to use dielectric grease, auto supply stores sell it to use in sparkplug boots. I use it on all my outdoor outlets and light sockets.

Why is dielectric grease better? (not challenging you, just trying to learn the "why" behind the assertion.)

Spark plug boots have the added design objective of on/off repetitive removal over time. That is not particularly a concern with this wire nut connection.

They sell wire nuts suitable for outdoor use.

It weatherproofs without making the connection permanent. Not that it might ever matter, but you never know.
