Hi I was wondering if I could get a second opinion on this:
I torn between two options
Polk New Monitor Series 65t Floor Standing($300 for pair) + 35b Bookshelves ($120) + 15c Center Channel($90) + PSW111 Subwoofer (free) = $510.

Versus

Energy Take Classic ($200) + Velodyne VX-11 (169) = $369

Difference = ~$141

This is an upgrade from a logitech home theater system from like 10 years ago lol. I don't know if the Energy Take Classic is a big enough jump from the logitechs because they have served me well for my noobish preferences and they were "loud". Its for a medium sized living room about 15' x 20'. Ceiling is about 9.5'. Using it mostly for movies and some music.
Also whether or not the Polk would be worth the extra ~$141 to feel an even bigger difference...

Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

I just bought 2x 75t, 25c, 45b, and got sub free. Don't like sub? sell it get another.

I would definitely go with the Polks over the Energy set. While the Take Classics are much better than anything Logitech has, it is still a satellite system and you won't get the output and dynamics that the Polks will offer.

In a room that size, you'll get more from those polks.

And in the future, you could upgrade to a second sub or simply sell/replace the PSW111 for something that digs deeper.

IMO the Take Classic system is inadequate for HT sound; period. The front speakers are way too small.

I'll bet that 90% of the Take Classic systems ever sold are in a junkpile in someone's garage or in a landfill. No one is satisfied with them for very long.

The Polk system is about 600% better in every way.

You may find, in time, that you will want to upgrade to a PSW505 subwoofer; the 111 may not be quite big enough for your room.

As a matter of fact, since the 65t is rated to go down below 40 hz, the 111 sub may be superfluous; you may not even find it adds much.

TY guys for your thoughts. I think I will go polk then. Furthermore how do you guys feel about the 65t pairing up with the 2 velodyne vx-11?

I think for the cost, the 10" VX-11 would probably not add as much low end ability as perhaps the BIC F-12 or PSW505. Similar price range. I would get a 12" probably.

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of piecing together my first setup from scratch. All my previous systems were HTIB sets. I recently picked up the Denon AVR-1613 when it was on sale for $199 and got the Polk 65T's for fronts on Newegg the other day. I'm still in the process of deciding on the rest of the setup but am leaning towards the TSi100 for the rear surrounds, the 25c for the center channel and a PSW505 for the sub. Is this a good setup or do any of you recommend any different speakers.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered. I cant wait to hear this compared to my current setup. smile.gif

My guess is that the Monitor 35 speakers will be cheaper than the TSi100 and they're basically the same speaker.

Thank you. I think I am going to go with those ones. Does anyone have a picture of how big the 25C actually is ? Some of the reviews stated it was massive. Does anyone here have it in their setup ?

If I were you I would get the 15c since the drivers match the 65t at 5 1/4 inches. But I've also heard getting center channels a little bit bigger don't hurt. all a matter of personal preference. If you look at my setup you can see how big the 15c is, which is a little bigger than the receiver.



Also check out my surround setup!






My only quirk is that the right surround is so much bigger than I thought it would be (11 x 7 x 10) (H,W,D). Also it is in the way of the hallway and it looks distracting from there. I know my house is kind of small, but I don't want to upset the rents with a huge rear speaker dangling there every morning.
anyone know if it would be acceptable for audyssey to move the right surround elsewhere as shown in the pictures below...

alternative surround right position...

any suggestions welcome...

edit: how about the right speaker going right behind the couch?

edit: how about the right speaker going right behind the couch?
for ht you want a large center as most of what you hear is through the center if you up grade again I would start with the center. if you are running 5.1 moving your speaker may be ok but up to what you think sounds good but not for a 7.1. should be at ear level or slightly above.
