If you don't mind buying used, you will open up your options quite a bit. Dynaudio, Totem...Salk, Fritz, Swan, Dana, GR Research are just a few that I would through into your sights. For example, Swan D2.1se's, I thought were just a wonderful speaker, can be bought outright AND can be built with high dollar wire and crossover and still come in under a grand. ..As mentioned above, Ascend ANYTHING is a fine choice....The Sierras are very hard to beat. My system seems to be a constant search and evolutionary project!LOL In the last 5 years I have had 6 different set ups in my main room, 3 Dyns, 2 Ascends, a Swan and I am now back to Dyns... Right now, I am content with a pair of used Dyns I found for an awesome price for a "like new" pair....How big is your room? Will you be using a sub? What are your listening habits? What kind of music do you like to listen to? All these are questions that will help others help YOU...ONLY YOU should decide where you spend your money, but there are lots of choices for sure. Have you spent any time on other forums? Audiocircle and audioasylum come to mind, as well as DIYaudio....LOTS OF GREAT INFO to read through
