yes it's a great game for me and the kids to play together. Somehow I think the wife would shoot me for playing cod around them.

1. It has already been noted elsewhere in these forums that the Vudu app for the PS4 differs from that for the PS3 by not having 1080p streaming. Also different is that in the "new trailers" area the PS3 Vudu app provides HDX quality, whereas the PS4 only provides HD.

2. In the PlayStation Store the Amazon Instant Video app for PS4 claims to be 1080p, which I think is new. I may be wrong, but in the streaming forums here at AVS it seems to be the opinion that until now Amazon streams at no higher than 720p. Also different for the Amazon app is that the PS4 version doesn't run a bandwidth test prior to starting the video, as does the PS3 app. Instead, the PS4 starts the requested video in very low resolution and then ramps up to higher resolutions. I like the PS3 Amazon app better, as it provides a more consistent visual quality.

3. The PS4 does not upscale DVD movies as well as the PS3. I inserted the Spears and Munsil, 2nd Ed. DVD test disk into both machines and sequentially tried them out on the same HDMI input on my Panasonic 60" VT60 television. The film clips and test patterns for evaluating jaggies (edge adaptation) showed that the PS4 was much more likely to exhibit jaggies. Also, the same film clips and the analogous test patterns on the Spears and Munsil Blu-ray disc showed that the PS4 also produced more jaggies than the PS3 on HD material other than 1080p24. Blu-ray movies at 24fps looked superb on both systems.

The PS3, of course, didn't have streaming at all when it was new, and it was a poor upscaler in the beginning. Over time all the firmware updates have made it much better. I hope the same is true for the PS4. One thing that might hinder this is that the PS4 has a "hardware" upscaler, which I assume means that it has a dedicated chip for this task. Is this chip for movies as well as games? Is this chip programmable via firmware updates?

Finally, here is an oddity. If you put your ear next the the PS4 disc drive while playing movie discs, you will notice that, unlike the Blu-ray discs, the DVDs make a faint buzzing or chattering noise. Is this actually the HDD? Is it working with the upscaling chip somehow? I wonder what is going on.

The hardware scaler will def work for movies, quality should be similar to the built-in scaler on AMD video cards. I don't believe the scaler itself is programmable, but there's plenty of opportunity for high quality scaling or processing on the CPU or GPU.

The Vudu app on my PS4 does 1080p just fine.

What is the average life of your DS4 controllers? Mine can go from a full charge overnight to needing to charged again the next night. My DS3 controllers would last multiple days even on high usage.

That is heartening. When I set up my PS4 Vudu app last Saturday the PlayStation Store info for it said 720p, and I noticed that the "new trailers" hacked the usual HDX option. I did see that movies were being offered for sale or rent in HDX, but I didn't test any. I had read elsewhere that HDX is also available at 720p (plenty of picture-quality aspects the extra bandwidth can be used to improve), so I assumed it was HDX at 720p. But if your TV says it is 1080p, that's great. Vudu is a great option for movie lovers like myself. I'll give it a try this weekend.

I meant "lacked," not "hacked." Sorry.

I'll make sure again tonight but the Vudu FAQs say that HDX = 1080p and HD = 720p. It would be weird if the PS4 app can't do 1080p when my BD player's Vudu app can and it runs 10x slower.

Man, I didn't even think about this before getting disc Need or Speed. But I also was worried I wouldn't like the game and would want to trade it in.

Does anyone know if you do the $10 upgrade from ps3 to 4 for Ghosts, will you still be able to play the ps3 version and have stats transfer back and forth?
Does anyone know how the captures work? I tried to manually capture a video clip of KZSF the other day but it didnt work. It seemingly randomly records 15 mins of gameplay whenever it wants but I want to be able to specifically tell it when to capture. Any ideas?

Hit the share button when you want to begin recording gameplay - it starts recording a new segment every time you press share.

I asked the same thing and was told I trade in my ps3 version (regular old edition) plus 10 bucks to get a sealed copy of the PS4 edition. I want to keep playing on the PS3....I saw someone on the Xbox forum do it through the marketplace but not sure how that works. Maybe there was a special edition out when it was released that came with both versions?

You can also manually edit the video you want captured out of the 15 minutes. Select the start/end points and preview it before actually trimming it out.

I know you don't trade it in since the upgrade is for a digital copy. Inside the game case is a digital download code for the upgrade, but i just want to make sure i can go back and forth between systems and my stats continue to transfer back and forth between systems.

Yep. You don't need to do a thing, just play on ps3 or ps4 whenever you feel like it, everything just carries over.

Just remember that if you have the ps3 disc version, you need the ps3 disc in the ps4 to play it.
You are saying put a ps3 game into the ps4 and it'll play it? They say its not backwards compatible so making sure the ps3 disc is in the ps4 to play it doesn't make sense. Seems like they are just coding it to where it won't play ps3 disc.
No. The upgrade is for a digital PS4 version and it disc checks the PS3 disc so you can't turn around and sell it, netting a new game for $10-25. It's not playing anything, just doing a disc check.

They use the PS3 disc to validate your PS4 version download.

Not if you buy the dual digital license.

If you buy the dual digital license you get to play both digitally any time you like.

If you have the default settings you can double-click share button to start and double-click again to stop (tho I believe with 15min limit)

Dumb question.

All the games install on PS4 from the disc, does the disc/fan run/spin while playing? Asking mainly from a noise standpoint. I keep seeing the DD are nearly silent.
Fan runs regardless if you're playing disc or digital. If it didn't, your console would be dead from the heat.

The disc will only spin up for a minute to do a disc check after the install is finished. (This check will happen every time uou boot the game) The fan is very quiet even under load on most units, if it is that loud, you may have a defective unit.

Just curious. Thanks.

Are any of you guys noticing that the PSN download speeds are throttled at 3mbps ? I have 20Mbps (verified) and have noticed that nothing goes beyond 3 to PSN. I am on my 20th attempt at Warframe & DCU. Finally was able to get blacklight and NBA.

Nah, I've definitely been able to download at upwards of 60-70mbps from them.

I never tested the speed of the sony games (but I have never had a problem downloading them) I wonder if the FTP downloads like Warframe and DC are being hosted by sony or just passing through them
