PlayStation 4 - Page 377

Random, but I cleared Kingdom Hearts 1.5 last night and unlocked a theme for my PS3, great way to show off the contrast and black levels your display can put out.

Additionally, 358/2 may be one of the saddest stories to come out of a game. I have no idea why it hit me so hard, not even TLoU's intro hit me like this did...

Well I'm not interested in paying for psn plus, so if I do download resogun now for free with the one month psn trial, after a month the game will expire and stop working right?

Yes, but if you ever renew Plus it works again. I have well over 100 free games from Plus over the last three years and get many more every year. Given the discounts on Plus itself it has been a no brainer to keep it, and if I get a Vita I have 10 games ready to go at no extra charge.

Why don't you want to pay for PS +? If you were go ask most people who have been Plus subscribers for some time, I can almost guarantee that they'll say the value is incredible compared to XBOX Live. You just spent $400 on a system and don't want to pay $50 a year for a great service?

Hell, with all the freebies, I feel like I'm getting paid to have it. :)

And that is how Sony convinced so many to not care about paying for online.

You could also use your month of Plus and play it free. Then you've either played it enough and are sick of it or could purchase it then. You'll also see what the January freebie is and determine if Plus is worth it.

See the thing is, I recieved a 10 dollar card with my ps4 as well, I added it to my psn account, how can I take advantage of that 10$? Can I use it towards a plus membership?
Yup, just add $40 in PSN cards and you can buy plus through the store. If you add $50 there currently a promo that gives you another $10 credit for a future purchase.

You can buy both funding cards and plus subs through amazon as well and enter the codes: http://www.amazon.com/20-PlayStation-Store-Gift-Card/dp/B004RMK4BC

FWIW, I should add that my PS4 is horizontal. It only gets louder just after some serious gaming like a while of playing Killzone. If I just go to the dashboard and muck around or watch a Blu-ray the fans stay nice and quiet.

It's too bad you didn't get in on the Plus for $30 thing during Black Friday.

What I would do, if I was in your shoes, is to use the free trial of plus, and try out resogun for one month. During this month, keep an eye out on Slick Deals and Cheapassgamer.com and you might see Plus for $40 instead of $50. Probably won't see it at $30 again for some time.
There are a bunch of the PS plus 12 months cards for $40 shipped on ebay. Which isn't too bad considering the people probably got them for $30 each.

I'm glad I decided to order several on black Friday

One related comment. Note that Sony uses sub-accounts for children (under 18 I think). For younger kids (13 and under?) the accounts are automatically blocked from any online features with no way to bypass the restriction.

Turning on ratings-based controls via the console is an option as well. However the restrictions are global (for all users) and can't easily be bypassed for a quick play session. You must navigate back through the settings and turn off the restrictions.

Sony also blocks the purchase of many titles for these accounts. It seems to be those which have online features in some cases, not ratings-based. For example, Doki Doki Universe is not available from the store on my son's Vita.

I don't think the parental controls are bad... just the contrary. However, the lack of control is frustrating in situations where I want to make a game available to my kids.

The thing is that I don't game that much so I think I'll pass on ps plus for now, to buy resogun for 15, do I just add a credit card to add 5 dollars to the wallet right?( since I already have 10$ in my wallet from the code)

My experience comes from BF4. For the most part it is pretty quiet, but I notice at certain points during gameplay the fan ramps up a decent amount and becomes audible...not to an annoying state but that is probably because it only lasts a couple minutes and gets quiet again.

I think this weekend I will take the 360 out of the A/V rack so I can add my other shelf and lay the PS3 and PS4 down horizontally the way I wold like to anyway. I have not fired up the 360 since I got my PS4 anyway so I guess I will just store it until my TV stand is done being built at which point I will have enough space to have the 360, XB1, PS3 and PS4 all hooked up at once...along with the WiiU once the price drops to the $200 price range I am hoping for.

I used to feel the same way. For example I really enjoyed the original NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 on PS2, where it just had the tree of races and you could just keep unlocking stuff. Then I played some other one (forgettable enough that I can't even remember the name) where I had to drive around to get to all the races, and it was just annoying. I didn't end up playing it for very long. I felt like "Just give me the races. I don't want to have to do all this driving around crap," because the world was pretty boring and it just seemed like a hassle.

In Rivals, there are plenty of assignments you can do for unlocks that you can accomplish just driving around, but you can easily complete a race, bank your points at home and go right to another race if that's what you want to do. It's like it has combined the best parts of Burnout Paradise and NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) with the graphics of BF4. Once you get a grip on the handling and you can just drift every corner it can become this smooth zen-like cavalcade of sensory overload. When you're hitting 225mph on the freeway, stuff is coming at you really fast, enough to evoke some adrenaline type of response similar to when you're on an awesome kill streak in BF4 and you're like "I can't believe I'm not dead yet!"

Good times.

Ugh so jealous..sorta, lol. What AV rack you have? I really need to replace my entertainment center. Until I shrink the HTPC there is zero room for additions and I know the wife is sick of staring at all of the equipment. Likely my 360 will get traded-in for a vita, zero investment in the system/ecosystem. Only using it to watch NHL gamecenter these days.

Here is a picture of my setup. I am not sure of the rack since my work let me take when we moved into our new building, but it looks to be a Mid Atlantic 30" high rack. I am going to be picking up a custom TV stand that a carpenter buddy of mine is finishing up that is basically going to be two 30" high racks flanking my center channel which will give me twice the space and will allow me to use my rack mountable drawer and a couple more shelf's.

It was frustrating at first as I needed to get use to the handling and didn't have pursuit tech. It felt like the cops were overpowered, but now that I have the handling down and have maxed out pursuit tech (ESF and Shockwave are my faves) I can rack up 250,000SP runs pretty consistently. I do wish there was a way to take down choppers.... just because it would be cool.

Seeing a lot of the same great weather and water effects as BF4 is pretty cool as well. It makes me wish they would add speedboats, since the water effects in Frostbite 3 are so awesome.

Curious, did you run into the "controls go dead" bug on NFS. I just found the EA forum thread after it happened to me, people are fairly outraged EA won't provide a fix/patch.

Do you know if this is limited to the DL version only or also the disc based game?

The PS4 and Xbox One CPUs were benchmarked, looks like Microsoft's only tech advantage never existed...

I guess neither released official info about the CPU's clock speed, right?

Leaks had them at 1.6GHZ, Microsoft made a huge deal about their upclocks (to 1.75GHz) giving them a leg up on Sony (even got Digital Foundry to run with it, saying a 50% GPU advantage was nothing, but a 10% CPU advantage was everything)

This coming out, and with a dev confirming that the PS4 CPU has more power for games makes that whole circus even funnier now.
Thanks, yeah I missed Xbone clock speed confirmation.

I was hoping the PS4's clock speed would be @ 2.0Ghz which is highly likely now according to the thread and article you mentioned. Xbone really can't catch a break when it comes to power difference lol, higher price tag sure doesn't help.

Different game, same old EA.

I thought the thread also said that the PS4 could be running 8 cores at 1.6Ghz with 1 core dedictaed to the OS. So it would have had 7 cores in the test. While the XBOne is known to have two cores dedicated so it only had six cores in use during the test. I thought it said that this would also produce the difference in results seen?

Bottom line is until Sony confirms either 2Ghz with 2 cores dedicated to OS or 1.6 Ghz with 1 core dedicated to the OS there can only be speculation. In the end it doesn't really matter. It is what it is. The systems are out and both doing well.
Yeah several explanations are mentioned in the thread and so far there's no 100% answer, like you mentioned PS4 could have a slower clock speed but it offers more power overall without reserving much like the Xbone does.

I also find it weird why Sony wouldn't come out and confirm their CPU runs at higher clock speeds when Microsoft made a big deal out of their 1.75 Ghz if PS4's really IS faster at 1.8Ghz+ or whatever.
The test seems to be based on a single core, not the entire chip based on the results, which would put the PS4 CPU at around 2.0GHZ if true.

It also makes me wonder if they upped the GPU from 800mhz as well, 1/2ghz was the base speed of the apu, .8/1.6 was considered the most efficient speed. This would make for an interesting turn of events if true...
