PlayStation 4 - Page 454

I bought is as well but haven't really played it much. I didn't find Doom 3 all that interesting for the few sections I played. I loved playing through the original Doom and later did some modding on some of the levels with some editor tools back in the day.

Wish we had a new Time Splitters coming.

Did I miss something? My PS4 just prompted me to install 1.61?

Hmmm, I thought 1.60 added those features. Oh well, guess there's nothing to 1.61 that I missed it even being talked about.

It seems to be a quick bug fix, it came out a few days ago.

I am currently listening to the Final Fantasy Prelude Theme playing on my PS4 while the beta updates. It just doesn't feel like a Playstation until Final Fantasy hits, even if it is a beta for an mmo.

Glad you said something, updating now. WTF is up with the screen? My picture is like 32" on my 65". Was tough filling in all the info. Hopefully irons itself out.

Cultural Dissonance is fun. Seems like they had a good time.

Saw this pop up on Google News feed. I've been noticing considerable lag lately and with the net neutrality dead it wouldn't surprise me that all this lag is related. Might explain all your packet loss the other night Tyrant. So it begins...fast connection that cant be used cuz some @$$hat isn't enough of a millionaire.

I haven't had any problems with Netflix, works just as good as it always has so, maybe Charter isn't doing this stuff yet.

EDIT: I meant to say Charter, not comcast.

Seems the web window is only 480p, it sucked on my 70" too. The PS3 version had a similar window at 720p.

Right after I get home sometimes Netflix buffers up to 25% and stops. It started in the last couple weeks. A modem reset solved it twice so I dud a hardware refresh but its happened since too. Hell at 6 AM when I was updating BF and setting up FF is took a dump on mine and my wife's phone. Still not sure what it was all about but everything eventually caught up.

"ISPs are upset about the increased cost of delivering those bits to subscribers and want Netflix to pay additional fees to cover its usage. In an effort to compel the streaming company to agree, ISPs have allegedly delayed connection upgrades that would alleviate the increasing congestion."

So basically they are butthurt that they have to provide the services we pay for, unless they get extra money from Netflix?...right...rolleyes.gif

Gotta love that capitalism. I was streaming last night and noted my netflix never went above 348 SD (according to the stream). Things will only get "better" once the lobbyists have allowed Comcast to gobble up TWC. Damn you google fiber for being in select markets.

I won't even get into how they are basically government sanctioned monopolies due to the costs and upkeep of infrastructure.

I think it's about time we take that back and nationalize the infrastructure like everywhere else has done. They've proven their inability (choice really) to build it out sufficiently. Seems to work great elsewhere where the government builds out the network and one group of companies compete to deliver the point to point service through them, while other companies compete on the upkeep and operation of the already built lines, owned by the public.

Sony: PS4 will remain in limited supply until April

PS4 pre-orders ... were so big that we were pinching ourselves and wondering if people were pre-ordering in more than one place, and if some of these pre-orders were real. We were getting numbers we never imagined, let alone seen before. But it proved to be real. How do I reconcile that? I think the world has changed since we launched PS3.

***

I can't work it out precisely. But based on what I've seen so far, I think it is going to be tricky until around about April," said Gara. "You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April.

Except there is no country compared to us in terms of geographic size and spread.  Its not a simple solution but something needs to be done.

Kinda. Two thirds the population lives in dense metro centers along the coasts, or within 50 miles of a major city.

I do realize it's not cost effective for everywhere, or to do so overnight. But currently we have companies that simply refuse to serve the public good, because its not "feasible/profitable". Tough I say, as they were granted quasi-monopoly service in a industry with stratospheric barriers to entry with the trade off that they have to balance profits with the public good.

I'd say 99.5% of US households are wired for phone service. That copper also needs to be replaced sooner or later. Lets move to VOIP and fiber already and if the ISP's are not on board, screw em.

Many Cities are actually fed up with the status quo and are moving to install their own public fiber infrastructure as we speak. ISPs are actually making moves and lobbying to prevent them, because it means they'll need to step up a well. They want to do it, but they want 10 fold the price to do it on the taxpayer and customers backs.

Why did att and verison have to outbid google on the old analog signals? They could have given us nationwide broadband by now with no caps, instead we got massive data caps with closed ports and spotty coverage.

That's crazy. I was actually having a little buyers remorse on my ps4 since all of my friends finally grabbed XB1's. If I were the type of person that sold consoles, it looks like I could still make a profit off my ps4 if I played it right. I guess we'll never know.
I guess we know why you can't find a camera. They probably have a limited number of assembly lines making them, and shifted towards consoles.

Unless the camera (PS eye) can be wireless or they allow it to have a really long cable, I can't use it.. My PS4 is on the other side of the room and my TV is on the other end. smile.gif

Why do we pay 1000X the going data rate for text messaging? Cause !@#$% you, pay me. Thats why.

All communications should be going over the air or through fiber. We should be paying the standard going rates of data over IP. We're intentionally being held back because the old methods are built out and very, very profitable (cost nothing to deliver service, charges are allow to stay high due to lack oversight).

You can blame the Government for that. AT&T was going to merge with T-Mobile but it was blocked. (This merger was to acquire spectrum)

The additional spectrum is needed for LTE services which will replace UMTS and is capable of up to 150Mbps. Currently the spectrum demands are high and there are too many companies providing services so anytime spectrum is made available it will be scooped up. Eventually we are going to get down to only 2 or 3 companies to meet the future wireless needs.

As far as Google , they have deep pockets and if they really wanted it no one could stop them.

Correct me if i'm wrong but that wouldn't really add spectrum, but just created a broader reach under the same spectrum. They have been buying up others rights in certain markets, but thats building out too.

basically making a big telecom bigger. I don't think that's something that will benefit consumers much with the current state of telecoms and ISP's.
At least att lowered data prices recently. Got an additional 6GB per month for $30 less than I had been paying. Still next to nothing for normal data usage, but it is an improvement.

There are FCC rules about spectrum and coverage. Both AT&T and TMO are supporting 3 technologies, GSM, UMTS and LTE and by law they must maintain 95% coverage where they own licenses. So a company can not buy spectrum and sit on it forever. There is a time limit where it must be used or they will loose the rights and it will go back up for auction.

Maintaining sites and tower space is expensive, TMO and AT&T share many of the same locations. The merger was purely for spectrum needs

First the Xbox thread, now this one. Maybe we should start a seperate thread to use to complain about ISP's.
