PlayStation 4 - Page 81

MBA students will be studying this for years to come...

Those TE sticks are USB. I have the xbox version and bought a little board that I can wire up to make it also work for PS3(which I never did). I'm wondering if a group will create something that will make it work.
Weird, as I thought USB was a standard. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come, or at least Sony figures it out and makes them work.

Not sure if it was mentioned already but does the PS4 have an IR port?

doesn't look like it.

also I like the stick separation on the new controller. That's been my second biggest complaint about the dualshock after the stick placement. They aren't gonna change that but at least the sticks are placed further apart. That will help with my thumbs bumping each other. The concave design also helps. Overall a very nice improvement on the ds3.

On to some bad news on the PS4 front (especially for Joe?):

I think these are wireless that use the PS3 controller signals, so it's not terribly surprising. It seems almost all USB controllers and wheel will work, but licensed wireless peripherals might not. ?

I do spend too much free time playing Tekken (it's why my backlog stays filled).

But I'm an Hori man myself. We'll see what they have to say next gen. I'm more concerned about being able to continue to use my Logitech Bluetooth-->IR adapter with the PS4 so that my Harmony remote will still handle my entire home theater setup.

I plan on popping n a 1tb drive soon after. I do have a 500gb SSD which I may throw in there just to see what impact it has on load times.

I do like the fact that it is user replaceable , drives are going to fail

Hmmm, I hope some comparison videos or writeups come out before launch to show the real world impact with SSD drives on the PS4.

Here's a listing of games that seemed to be confirmed for launch on the PS4 so far:

Assassins Creed 4
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghost
DriveClub
FIFA 14
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
Madden 25
NBA 2K14
NBA Live
Need for Speed: Rivals
Warframe
Watch Dogs
The Witness

I'll be picking up a 2TB HDD for my system at launch. 7200rpm if I can find one.

6 of those day one games so far are on my must buy list.
I wouldn't use SSDs at first, I'd like to experience the improvement Sony promised (the whole no more waiting part) without using better hardware myself.

The only game that truly interests me in that list is Watch Dogs and we still don't know how it'll turn out.

Joe, you'd probably know. Hows this stack up to the other Playstation and other system launches in history past?

CD Projekt Red is not happy about the Xbox One DRM and are ashamed that they were on the Microsoft press event. (I am guessing they accepted the check and contract from Microsoft before the DRM was confirmed) They are still bringing the game, because they care about their fans, but they are not looking forward to dealing with the restrictions.

Digital Foundry will undoubtedly do a thorough benchmark of the PS4 with a variety of HDD's. Stay tuned for that at some point before launch.

Wow, Microsoft had so many day one edition cancelations that Amazon had to reopen the preorders... that is just sad.
I would think any dev/publisher would LOVE DRM. With DRM you get a cut from used game sales and you have total control of the game. You keep usd games from flooding the market and get more new sales since used games are more restricted. You also get more money because it isn't as easy to lend games etc.

Now gamers hate it for the freedoms it takes away and the restrictions it adds, I hate online required DRM (which is why I almost never buy digital download games) , But I think it was the publishers that were pushing for it wasn't it?

If people who play used games can't buy used games, they'll just game less and be pickier about their purchases. If people buying new games and selling them to recoup cash to buy new games can't, they'll buy less and be picker about their new purchases. Then you run into the fact that entertainment dollars are very elastic, there's tons of other places to spend money on entertainment and hobbies.

The economics behind "used games sales hurt the industry" is dubious at best, childish wrong at worst. What it will do is raise prices and concentrate power to the bigger publishers even more, that's a given; which is why they seem to want it the most. It's not about revenue, at least how the industry is situated now.

They rolled all the standard edition preorders into it which temporarily put it ahead of the PS4, notice that the standard dropped off the list? The launch edition PS4 is still in third place even though preorders have been closed for days now.

Scratch that, standard edition is gone, can't find it anymore.

sorry youtube doesn't sell consoles
amazon does

Anyone not willing to splurge on a huge SSD, but wants a lot of the benefits should consider one of these hybrid drives:

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1371177954&sr=1-1&keywords=hybrid+drive

I've had one in my PS3 for years, absolutely love it. You can definitely notice the difference.

it is simple math, MS now has so few preorders there is not the "after launch" xbone, so to make it simple let's use some made up numbers
1. xbone launch - 10,000
2. PS4 launch - 8,000
3. PS4 Standard - 6,000

lastly, i think it is funny that in the xbox thread you said those preorders mean nothing yet in this thread you are using the same preorders?? which is it??

please read this article regrading preorders..
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/14/e3-2013-ps4-outpacing-xbox-one-pre-orders

Early data for console pre-orders from major online retailers in the United States show consumers pre-ordered approximately three PS4 units for every two Xbox One consoles

Amazon = everything now?

Wait until proper sales figures are out when both consoles are out, I'm willing to bet the world wide Xbone sales will be LAUGHABLE compared to PS4 sales, its only hope of being any sort of competition is in USA.
