PlayStation 4 - Page 83

I've been paying for MP since the beginning of XBL so, It's just not that big of a deal to me, at least PS+ offers more like free games and stuff, unlike XBL Gold (until now, but it looks like the freebies will stop when the One is released).

Always a choice. Coming from the 360 side I was paying more then what the PS+ cost . I never experienced free console MP but was hoping to do so this gen..

On a PC when you spend $60 most gaming companies like Blizzard or steam have their own servers . Part of your game price goes to funding their server farms which are used for multiple games.
.
But on the console you pay the same amount (or more) and you get no such services.

I'll try the PS+ service out in the beginning but chances are I won't be keeping it. When there is a next gen MP game I want to play I'll give it another go but in the mean time If they are going to release many of the same games for the PS3 (which will still be free MP ) I don't see the value. in paying a premium.

The FFXIV beta website is currently getting slammed, I can't even create an account to start the registration process.

I totally agree that all the features and perks of a network like PSN should be behind a Paywall (even stuff like messaging or matchmaking), but the exception should be plain old vanilla MP. It never used to be that way. The costs of running MP used to be included in your game purchase, and on PC still is expected to be. I already pay a considerable amount to my ISP, and the costs of hosting a vanilla game server vs the revenue from the game sales it supports is negligible for most publishers.

We have Microsoft to thank for this thinking, and it’s reason #1 why the XBone really is such a threat to our hobby. They’ll take away all our rights and nickel and dime us, while pointing to flimsy self-justifications that the other company was able to do this and that. Sony rightly deserves to be called out on this, even if it is a good value. Give an inche and these guys will take a mile, while fanboys run to their defense.

Choice is better than just good value, and anytime you pigeonhole people into features you’re bound to lose some. With your example, after PS3, doesn’t Sony need all the new and returning customers it can get?

I bet the costs of losing them over the lifetime of the console in lost game sales are higher than the minuscule additional cost of giving them a joining MP only connection to the network and asking them to join Plus for the extra value.

I have a PS3, but have never used PSN. Coming from an Xbox where I had to pay for MP, the concerns over an MP paywall are a little foreign to me. I remember the days of trying to get a match with the original Halo and the OG Xbox using some program I downloaded off the internet. It was horrible. When I heard the MS was going to offer a paid service that would match you with people based on a skill metric, dude, that was awesome! Yeah, I'll pay for that smile.gif

That said, I imagine it is a hard pill to swallow for those that are accustomed to good matchmaking for free. Having to pay for something that you are used to getting for free is never a nice change.

I agree, this is one reason I went with PS3 over XBox 360 in the beginning. Higher launch price but overall lower cost of ownership as you don't have the online fees. I also liked the PS3 better for other reasons (better and more trusted hardware IMO, better 1st party games , etc).

I understand why PS4 has an online pay model but I definitely will be waiting (maybe a couple of years even) before I pick it up. I have so much good on my PS3 backlog, I can't justify the PS4 purchase and having to pay monthly/yearly fees.

Being charged for basic, online multiplayer by the console manufacturer is terrible. On principal alone (since I love PS+ for everything else), Sony's downgrade on this issue is the only bad news about the PS4, IMHO.

Yes, I know that they say it helps cover additional perks for the service, more of which is to be added and revealed later I guess. However, that doesn't matter to me when it comes to the principal of it all. A monetary charge should apply directly to the benefit being received. Even if we get 1,001 truly fantastic, new PS+ benefits next gen, we are still being forced to pay for something that the monetary charge isn't directly supporting.

That is a penalty, plain and simple. Everyone who has voluntarily signed up for PS+'s awesomeness on the PS3 can say.... "I pay for PS+ because I like this feature, or I love that perk.". There will now be certain people who sign up for PS+ on the PS4 that don't exist right now when they say: "I was forced to sign up for PS+ so I can play the online half of a game I already paid full price for." Awful, awful, awful.

With that said, I'm at least happy that PS+ on its own remains the best video game related service I've ever had. I willingly signed up through 2015 when the last membership combination discounts were offered, which was long before this PS4 news was announced.

Just when I was about to curse you I saw that I received the e-mail as well lol :P, funny thing is I singed up for the beta like only 2 weeks ago, I guess entering the first print FFXIII members code increased my odds!

Yeah I won't try my luck with the severs now, too many people are at it now, will do so later. I've never played FFXIV and I'm very much looking forward to get the game on the PS4, hopefully I'll like the Beta!!! BTW will I have access to the Beta game any time I like or it's just on the weekends? I've never participated in an MMO Beta before lol.

They Are forcing people to pay to use the P2P or dedicated servers that were entirely done by the publishers, Sony aren't giving me any special Dedicated servers themselves. They could have made all the Share/Stream..etc options as PSN Plus Exclusive yet still gave people access to MP for free just like it is on PC. For example I know many people who ONLY play Street fighter 4 online, that's literally the only thing they do on the console, how is it fair to ask them to pay yearly fees to do that?

Again, I Personally have NO problem with paying for PS + and like I said I'll probably sign up for 2 PSN+ regions, I'm also looking forward to a much improved PSN experience now that it's getting $, but you have to look at it from the perspective of many people who DO feel forced paying for something they won't use, they just want to use the Multiplayer service that the game they bought already setup and provides, NOT Sony.

I got the account registered and the launcher installed on my PS3, but I still have 12GB of stuff to download according to the download page. I'll be installing it soon.

PS4 standard edition preorders have overtaken the total Xbox One preorders on Amazon. (Remember, Xbox One only has the launch edition now, they rolled all standard edition orders into the launch edition)

Well in all fairness Gamespy Arcade used on the Xbox was to circumvent Halo being LAN only. It wasn't the most elegant solution available and wasn't meant to replicate what Live could do but I'll be damned if I didn't have many a long night playing with friends all over the country when we couldn't all be together. We had a blast and Halo 2 sorta made the whole ordeal very sterile and almost cold. It was sort of the wild west of console online back then and I will always remember those days fiddling with that program to make sure we could all play and weren't booted for whatever reason. I can appreciate what Live did to online matchmaking and hopefully Sony will use the money it gets for PS+ to really improve the MP experience. I have no qualms about paying for it if the package is worth it. So far so good.

I really believe that many people ordered early Monday morning because they could just to reserve them. After the Sony Conference which ended pretty late many people cancelled and switched between then and Tuesday., Amazon later moved all of the standard sales into the first addition slots which were opened by leaving customers. And they still haven't sold out of day one

Besides, shouldn't the Day One edition be Day 5 by now ?

At least thats how i read it.. smile.gif

It would have to be something like that or they got more Day One consoles. I find that hard to believe because MS is still working on projections so it is not like some factory had a really good week and they have more to sell.

My guess is that Microsoft saw the bad press from the Amazon poll and saw the One lower on that list and offered Amazon more launch units to push it back to the top. Amazon would have welcomed this, especially if they were bleeding preorders, a guaranteed launch unit is appealing, especially to scalpers and are always a guaranteed sellout for consoles. Even the Wii U sold out of their launch supplies.
Don't think the scalpers are going to make anything on the XB1. Not many people are going to lay out $500 let alone the additional shipping and a small profit.

Unless something changes with MS policies I don't see even them holding onto them. I can see a bunch more cancellations just before launch.

Scalpers make money based on high demand and low supply. I do not see high demand here so supply should be fine unless MS holds back on units to stores to create an impression. There is a percentage of the population that likes a strict rule framework with limited choice. It makes tomorrow more predictable.

So any idea if you have have multiple VITA's connect to the PS4 for remote play or is it one at a time ? And if you can use the PS4 while the Vita is using remote play ?

If you can use multiple can you use the same game license for all ?
Remote play still runs the game on the console. It would need crazy resources to run two different games at once.

Im not sure about using two for coop.

Does anyone know what the second plug is for on the dual shock 4? I'm talking about where the earpiece plugs in. USB?
Its for the headset.

Did Sony confirm if the DS3 will be compatible with the PS4? Those can come in handy until one gets additional DS4s.

Nope, you are out of luck. Can't use Dual Shock 3 with PS4.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/yoshida-dualshock-3-wont-work-with-ps4/

I am guessing you can't use a Dual Shock 4 with a PS3 either? I know it has new features but I'd wonder if the PS3 features of the Dual Shock 4 would work on the PS3. Probably not but since I will probably need a new controller before I get the PS4, it would be nice to future proof it.

Anyone pre-order there's online from Best Buy? I have 2 pre-orders, one is a confirmed launch day version from Amazon and the other is from Best Buy that I pre-ordered about a day after doing the Amazon one. I'd prefer to get it from BB so I can get the reward points but, I can't tell if I'll get it on launch day or after (I also chose in-store pickup).

I'm also trying to decide if I want to keep both and try and flip one on eBay. I just don't have much experience with selling on eBay and would kick myself if I ended up losing money on the flip (my wife would kick me for real). I just remember people paying $1000+ for PS3s on eBay when it launched and man, I'd hate to take advantage of someone but, if they are that willing to throw money away it would be nice to basically flip one while also covering the price of the one I keep. With my luck, if I try there will probably be plenty available and I get stuck with it or sell it at a lose. This is why I don't gamble, it makes me to nervous.

I don't see a way that you loose. Amazon lets you send it back with free return label or you can walk the other back to BB and get your money back so if you wanted to flip it on ebay you really can't loose as long as it isn't opened. it is a big hassle on such a high ticket item. You may be better off dealing with cash on craigs list. Just rent a body guard

Best buy preorders(online at least) are kind of annoying. It will check your card regularly until you pick it up to make sure the funds are there. It can trigger fraud protection on some cards and if your order gets cancelled there is nothing they can do.

It is actually more disturbing as I'm sure I possibly will want some xbone exclusives (I did buy a 360 at launch). I really hope their plan fails an they have no choice but to revert to what gamers want.

For another funny XBone related item, see what happens when you type xboxdone.com into your browser. I won't hyperlink it because the humor is more effective when you type it yourself. Enjoy!

Giant Bomb got a hold of a PS4 in this video. Really gives you a good idea how small and light it is. Skip to 3:25:00 for the PS4. They also discuss the controller right before then.
