PlayStation 4 - Page 238

If exclusivity includes all the sequels, it's a pretty big deal. If not... then it isn't that significant (it is an online multiplayer-only experience after all).

Familiarity will make it a big deal. Look at the sales numbers of mass effect on the two systems.

If Titanfall 2 does make its way to PS4 and undersells, it's EA's loss.

It's Respawns loss and I hope they weren't strong armed into this. After the crap Activision pulled on these guys, I just want them to have some success.

I guess that puts an end to the titanfall coming to ps4 talk.

I wonder when this happened.. If this was the case early on they would have just said it . No reason to hold something like that back. I see this as a sign that MS is really hurting and between all this bad news, the resolution issues and the bad news on the way. This is a way to try to stop the bleeding.

Unfortunately Titanfall will also be 720P and when it is compared to the PC upon release it will look even worse.so no big loss.

I still think a version is going to come to PS4, probably one with a single player campaign aswell as the multiplayer. Several insiders have indicated as such. It's too large a market to ignore, unless the moneyhat was really THAT big

I don't mind devs making money but this particular item is integral to the SP game. This kind of practice really leaves a bad taste along with worry they'll do even bigger paywalls with Watch Dogs and The Division.

It took 5 years but Mass effect, the game that would "never" appear on PS3, did it in the trilogy in 2012. Never say never...

They walked themselves right back into the same position they were in before it seems, although I'm sure the office life is a bit better.

Too bad they jumped from IW right before Kickstarter blew up. They have the credit and the kind of ideas they can easily net the funding needed for big AAA games by themselves, and wouldn't have had to deal with EA. Money is nice for EA, but reaching millions more fans and cementing a larger fan base would be better for Respawn. Especially with EA's cutthroat cost / benefit business.

Vince is being pretty candid on twitter. (Link compiles many posts)

Titanfall 2 all but confirmed with these for all platforms.

I wonder how Activision feels about Microsoft throwing all this money at EA and Respawn... Might be why we got all that Ghosts PS4 footage not long ago.

Yeah, to find out this info at the same time as the general public sucks for Respawn. Also, if there was any work started on ps3/ps4 ports, it is completely wasted.

I say let them, it'll be there funeral. If they start to lock more and more of the SP campaigns behind paywalls then they will essentially be doing what MS just failed at doing, cutting out the used and rental markets. If they try that, there games will not sell so, I dare them.

Ubisoft seems to be the most stubborn about these activation codes. Many companies have already announced that they are abandoning the practice, including the company everyone loves to hate... EA. Ubisoft just climb up a few rungs on the "publishers I dislike" ladder.

Exactly.. If someone wants to add an expansion pack in 6 months that's one thing but releasing a game with locked content day one eliminates that title permanently from my list. There are more games available then I have time to play . Now there is just one less

This time around, I am not going to get sucked into worrying about whether an xbox exclusive game will ever come to playstation or not. Last gen I was bummed that Lost Planet was exclusive to the xbox and then when it did come to the PS3 I was so busy with other games I never even bothered playing it. Too many games to worry about it...

It seems that Titanfall’s just announced Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC exclusivity is still fairly fresh information to the game's creator, as he and the rest of his team only found out about the news recently. “Always Microsoft exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup,” he Tweeted. “EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently.” There was a sad face at the end of his message.

Hopefully if it's any good, there will be a way to work around that in the future like how the GTA games made it to the original Xbox or how Mass Effect 1 finally showed up on the PS3.

From what IGN and Engadget got from the developer, MS locked up Titanfall this go around since the company was a new developer. They basically state that future Titanfall games would come to PS4.

A year ago, it looked like XBOX was going to run away with this gen. However, once it was seen that they were the Gestapo, a good number of gamers, including myself, switched to PS4. In my case, switched back to Sony.

Titanfall does look compelling, but not enough for me to buy the console. I've missed some games before, so it's ok if this one joins that rank. Yes, I want to play it, but Killzone 4 looks capable of keeping me occupied. There are a few games coming next spring which should really be winners. Watch Dogs being one!

If this was truly behind Vince's back, do not be shocked if he seeks legal action over this, he got enough money from the MW2 settlement to fight them on this one and continue to pay his employees.

I wouldn't assume that respawn isn't getting a huge cut of that exclusivity deal.  Unless their lawyers were idiots they had to have considered the potential for a deal like this, and ensured that their client gets their fair share. Either way there doesn't sound like there's anything illegal going on. EA is probably funding a huge portion if not all of the development, without getting the IP rights...control of stuff like this is the least they'd expect.

Chances are he's just frowny-facing out of one side of his mouth while the the other side has a **** eating grin from the millions they just pulled in on the deal.

no... Not needed. Titanfall would never be on my radar until it had a single player component. I play online but often like SP.

Looks like BF4 only has 4 hours of SP, waiting to see how long COD is. So I am waiting for the COD review before I choose one.

Hopefully they are able to create a good Single Player for TF2 whenever it comes.

Following Vince's more recent tweets, he seems ticked about it in several ways.

I don't think he stated specifically about future TitanFall games coming to PS4. Reading the question that was asked was about developing for PS4 in general.

BF4 and COD are apples and oranges. COD is basically Team Deathmatch, period. Fun for a minute, but mostly every man for himself. BF4 is most popular with the team based modes. Plus the environments are destructible in ways that can change the layout of the map.

In the past I've played both, but like BF much more. This time, I'll only get BF4 as COD doesn't even look engineered for next gen, but upscaled. I'll try it out next year once they've had time to build it for the new consoles.

I strongly suggest you consider the different natures of each game, not just the length of the Single play campaign.

During the week of the PlayStation 4 launch, Target will be running a 'buy two games, get 1 free' promotion, according to a leak of the retailer's sales circular.

it notes that the deal applies to the PS4 games that are shown (those being Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, NBA 2K14, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Battlefield 4) and more in stores. The only fine print pertaining to the deal appears to be that each of three games must be a different title and that the lowest-price game will be the one that's free.

The deal is set to run from November 10 through November 16.

I think he was as explicit as he needed to be without creating a breach of contract conflict. Not difficult to read between the lines that he's interested in economies of scale now that its obvious that the PS4 will take the early lead this gen.

MS paid many tens of millions to the developer and EA for exclusivity. They planned to pin the early release of the console on Titanfall. They may come up with the money to keep it forever, but we just don't know right now. What we do know is that this development studio wants onto the PS4. We also know that EA wants to work both sides also.
Titanfall doesn't have any single player content. It would be easy for them to treat it like a sports game and release Titanfall 2 in March 2015 with all the same content from the first one and an equal amount of new content. It's not like you're missing out on any story that way, like with Mass Effect.

Would explain no AA on XBone and FXAA on PS4 at a loss in clarity (expected). The above comparison seems to have it off.

I can tell you that the 360 version does not have this option so the XB1 may not either.
