The controller light doesnt affect all the image on screen - at all.

I've used my Blackberry charger to get my first controller charged while I'm waiting.

I've had a projector for years, and even on it's lowest setting, it's extremely bright to my eyes so a few small lights on the equipment does not bother me. Actually, I don't like sitting in a completely darkened room anyway.

The PC version is just as bad. I played 30mins of it and turned it off. Waiting for patches. COD is buggy as can be on the PC too. So its not just the PS4.

Why does your experience trump others? Maybe someone else is in a smaller room or sits closer to their screen, or, like in my situation has a retro-reflective screen material with a high gain that reflects light back to the source, meaning that a light source held in the viewers hands is reflected directly back, on angle, to the viewer with 2.8 gain. Simply because it's not a problem for you, doesn't mean it isn't a problem for others. I am one of those others and I'd love to not have to resort to attaching electrical tape or vinyl to my brand new controller that I otherwise love.

Why are people telling me I have never gamed on a projector setup when I have been doing exactly that for the last 1.5 years ?
Why are people who dont even have the system yet telling me that it is an issue when three days with my own eyes and setup are telling me it clearly isnt ?

My guess is that when you insist that the light from the controller is a non-issue (when it is) it sounds as if you don't have the requisite experience.

Hope to get some help with my issue. First, when playing killzone it works fine, but when i play nba 2k14 and go to nba today no videos show up. Then when i try and do quick game or anything it drops the sound and then freezes on me. I hit the ps button and try and back out but when i get to the UI screen that freezes. So I try and turn off the system with ps button and I cant just stays on the UI screen. Now when hold the power button down for seven seconds it beeps but nothing happens so i end up having to unplug and then plug back in everytime i play 2k14, i havent played since yesterday due to that, and i get no error message but all other games work fine killzone and the space ship game hope someone can help.

After the 2k14 update is when i started having these problems!

Hmm, what is this supersampling you speak of?
A particular benefit to making a game do that?

Why are you and Brett still debating with this guy. I can't tell whether or not he's just funning with y'all, or if he doesn't have a PS4, or what.

Seems that Sony is getting some of the criticism about the light, so make sure you also drop them a comment too explaining what that neon light does. It is cute in concept, or in a lit room, but many of us here on AVS obviously like to play in the dark at night, as I do with my home theater. Many of us are also very proud of our set ups also, and don't wish for them to be altered at all.

My troll detection is lacking. I tend to not look at member sign up date and post count.

Which option off of the light dim website did you go with? Not sure which would be best? I like the idea of a very subtle light so that I can see the controller status instead of a 100% blackout (tape/vinyl).

Well, in your defense it is difficult when in the "Mobile" format. It is one of my strong griefs with the Mobile site as it forces me to tap-and-hold on a user, then "open in new tab" and check out the user stats and then close that tab and then decide on how to reply...

Oops! Brett is the problem. Yea, he's just having some fun. Annoying maybe, but hey, that's the internet. smile.gif

Like I said, I feel your pain. My set is a plasma, but I could only imagine what a projector would look like with a bright light.

Also, guys, lets not make critical remarks about other members set ups. All of us are hard working, honest men and women. We spent hard earned money on our set ups, so we're proud of them. Entry level or not, so what? It's start and an investment. Anything is better than not having a home theater. Even if you don't currently have one, you'll get there and we'll be waiting to discuss it, and offer set up advice when you do.

If you've got a ton of $$ and always blow out top of the line, great for you. Lets not be so elitist, it's just rude.

It reduces jagged edges and shimmering of pixels while you're in motion. Basically makes the image much more stable and life-like. It's still much softer at 720p than 1080p, but it looks better than rendering directly at 720p.

Basically it means that people who only have 720p TVs are still getting some benefit from the fact that the games are native 1080p.

Let's see....

- AV snobbing (you're an idiot because you don't have an expensive projector!), check
- Low-post count snarking, check
- A bunch of long-time forum-goers shouting down a newbie, check.

Whatever happened to "agree to disagree" and moving on? Don't we have better things to talk about?

Speaking of which, I am glad I don't have a PS4 yet because I have too much work going on and it'd be killing me not to play it. Gotta find out when a new batch becomes available though...

Maybe this was just a fluke - but I put my system in standby on Saturday night and plugged in the 1-bar controller to charge. Sunday afternoon I turn it on again and the controller already registered 2 bars. It was no longer flashing amber so it indicated it was fully charged. Did it drain over USB after completing the charge?

Sunday afternoon I put it in suspend and charged again. Sunday night it was at full bars.

I got the all 4 versions package, which included this one...

Customizable Edition,
dims 50%-80% (Color Black)

not sure what happened there but form me its working as it should for 2 controllers. once fully charged the light goes off

i also dont find the lights that annoying at all, my TV is higher then most so the light wont hit it unless im standing up and they are no where close to as bright as a Phone or laptop screen

I guess this is directed to me since I stated he had an entry level projector, it was not being elitist. Is it not fact that more entry level projectors produce a weaker picture in regards to color accuracy, contrast etc...? If you have a very expensive projector and are seeing inky blacks a light source could really impact those blacks because you expect them to be inky black...now if you have one that more produces say a grey black you might not be the type of person who cares about having the deepest black, so you might not care or notice if your picture is a bit more washed out because you don't pay that close attention. Now I am not saying the light from the controller totally washes out the screen, it would be foolish to say so.

I had people over for UFC see this weekend people that don't have projectors and I showed them some PS4 and when it faded to black for loading and the room was dark everyone was shocked how much the screen lit up and how bright the room was with the controllers on.

I'm going to update via the USB method to be cautious. Have they fixed the frame rate issues with COD yet with a patch?

I also have a 110" screen projector set up in my HT, and even with 4 Emotiva amps and their blue lights blazing, the light output does not bother me so I'm sure the DS4 won't either.

FWIW, I'm gaming on a 110" inch BOC screen with and Optoma HD33 at about 1000 tuned lumens in a pitch black room.

The light from the controller doesn't affect me at all, have zero wash out onmy set up, and half the time I barely notice it's on.

I also have my PS4 on a makeshift rack right below my screen so I can use the camera and barley notice the light bar on the pS4 itself.

I guess this varies from personal perception and set up but I can't see the controller or console washing out an image unless you're using a super low lumen dinosaur of a projector or high gain screen.

Could different controller batches be using different plastic for the light area?

I'll say my light is pretty bright, but the light is very diffused and not all all like the 2nd picture posted above with that huge bloom. It's more like the first.

Hey all, I've been a long time away from the board. It's cool to be back. Lots of new names, but a lot of veterans still here, too. It's nice to see.

Anyhoo...I'm "stuck" working up in Northern Manitoba right now, and won't be home for another week, or so. What's the buzz on more PS4s coming before Christmas? You guys still seeing any in stores? It's kinda tough being so far away from city life right now. All I get are Youtube videos. I saw a video for the free psn mobile app this morning, and it looked pretty sweet. You can send psn messages on it (instead of having to use your controller), as well as download updates and games on it from home. Anyone try it yet? I'm super excited to get back into games on the Sony side again.

I'm getting some very bad lip sync issues when playing BDs. I can't figure out if it is my TV causing the problem or the PS4 but, it only seems to happen during BD playback. Apps like Netflix, Vudu and Amazon don't have any lip sync issues. I've noticed a little bit of lip sync problems during gaming but it comes and goes so I assumed it was the game (Knack gets out of sync at some points but is in sync at other times). It is really bad with BDs, the audio is almost 1/4 of a second ahead of the video.

I used DVE to test, the pattern with the circle with a line spinning clockwise, then beeps with a white flash every time it hits the 12 o'clock position. The beep happens at about 10 o'clock. I then put in my copy Star Trek Into Darkness; the very first scene after the opening title, the actor's hand slaps an alarm clock to turn it off, the sound of his hand hitting it happened well before he hit the clock. I then played the same scene using the Vudu app, perfectly in sync. Also tried the same BD in my other BD player (which loaded the disc almost 20 seconds faster then the PS4, odd) and no sync problems.

I have no idea what to do, any adjustments I make to correct the BD playback would throw off the other stuff. This is why I'm not sure it is my TV causing the problem but maybe something with the PS4. What could the PS4 be doing different when playing BDs, compared to other stuff?

I have a Panasonic 3D BD player so, the PS4 was never going to be used for BD playback much but, it just annoys me when I discover a problem and can't fix it, even if I'm not going to see the problem much.
