Laservue light assembly replacement

My L75-A91 of thirteen months has developed a pulsating of red colors, especially noticeable when the Laservue logo first appears. The extended warranty provider sent out a Mitsubishi repairman who said it was the red laser and the whole light assembly would have to be replaced since it is one sealed unit complete with fans. The service provider said the cost of repair was more than the TV was worth and the part is no longer available. Mitsubishi has, as you all know, dropped out of the DLP business and fired all their tech guys and ceased making parts. I thought a company had to provide parts for at least 7 years? They are still selling the 91, along with the 94 and 96 models. When I questioned customer service at Mitsubishi about how they were going to repair the TVs still under warranty, I was told they will not repair if parts are not available but offer to buy back the TV for about $1000. Is this legal? Are there any others out there who have experienced this? With all the hype and media praise lavished on this TV since 2006, I would think there would be techs who promoted this product screaming foul and holding Mitsubishi accountable. Any suggestions guys other than it sucks to be me with a bad Laservue Mitsubishi?

What do you mean they ceased making parts?

I was told they, meaning Mitsubishi, and the parts they have in inventory, pertaining to the Laservues, when they are gone, they are gone. Meaning the laser light assembly, the core of the Laservue TV, and the 91's are no longer available. If you can find otherwise, I will be in your debt, because the 91 model has no replacement, and the 94 and 96 are limited to what they have on hand. Call them and hear it for yourself and be prepared to be persistent, it's not a pretty picture. I'm hoping the parts can be interchangeable, the tech guy, there is only one left, has yet responded to me, not a good sign. But please try it yourself, I welcome any help.

I thought you were referring to the DLP sets. I was getting nervous because I thought maybe they were lying to me about sending me a light engine for my 73842.

Sorry to hear about your set. I have just about had it with my TV. 5 months old, 3 light engines. Honestly I have had maybe one good month of viewing this TV. Very frustrating

That repair man is one of those that do not want to work the light engine is hold with about 5 or 6 screw, one of them hold a switch that you have to look close before you take it out.
My A91 was out of warranty and the only ??? they ask me was; do you have an extended warranty? I said no (witch was true) and they took care of it at no charge.
I took a look at the invoice that mit send with the box and it said light engine $600.00 dollars.

Yeah, someone is lying to you. I just had this very same issue (identical, red pulse) fixed on my TV yesterday by a tech who came out and replaced the "light generator". I don't know what terms they are using.... I do know there are two primary failure parts in this set. The first is the part that contains the DMD chip, this is the shrouded piece in the center of the TV that mates up with the part that houses the lasers and the screen shroud. It has some optics in it, but I suppose the primary function of this part is to hold the DMD chip and control the alignment. In this part, the DMD fails, its failure mode is the "white speckle" issue that some people are reporting.

The second failure part is the laser assembly that generates the light for this set. It is towards the bottom of the set located on the opposite side of the input panel. This piece is what needs to be repaired for your particular issue. To replace it you have to remove the part with the DMD chip and then remove this as well. The two pieces mate together, there's a little optical coupler between them where the laser light leaves the first piece and enters the second to be reflected off the DMD and up on to the screen.

At any rate -- the tech that came out to me has been replacing these pretty regularly according to him. Maybe he just has a stockpile of spares, but I doubt it. My guess is, the parts are available.... So, work your way up the phone chain, find someone who knows what they are talking about, demand it be fixed. Though, 13 months is out of warranty, so if you don't have an extended, you may be screwed....

I am still working it. I'm Scottish, we don't surrender, we succeed. I recently talked to a Mit. rep by the name of Neica, she was a sweetheart. She reviewed my case, which has a long electronic paper trail. She informed me that parts are available. I've talked to over seven different people on this problem., including Mike and Marvin, with strong Indian accents, who tried hard to help me, but transferred me over to mind numbing elevator music that lasted forever, except for the patronizing phrase, "We value your call". It seems that this thread has lit a fire of sorts. Mitsubishi has been receiving calls about this, I hope the cat is out of the bag thanks to you guys and others. I hope for a resolution in my favor. The Laservue is a phenomenal viewing experience, when it works. I think Mitsubishi jumped out to soon, obviously listening to their bean counters, if you know what I mean. They had a winner here but thought they could not compete after hearing from the talking heads who seem to think they have it all figured out. Talking heads have no heart. I owned a Diamond Mitsubishi CRT for ten years before buying the Laservue, I waited to the third generation before buying hoping the bugs had been worked out. Alas, I was wrong, the funny thing is that there is hardly no response to my problem, until I went here on this forum. I appreciate what feed back I have gotten and I want to thank you AVS for being there, I had no where else to go. Thank you again.

Good news, Mitsubishi made good, they found the part and sent it UPS at no cost to me. The service tech, Alex of Poway TV, had been working with me in my on going battle with Mitsubishi. Once a file had been set up on me then things seemed to move slowly. You are still bumped around to this person and that person but at least there is a file with notes for them to see. The customer service rep Nieca was the person who really made this happen. She made it her mission to get that part that so many had said was not available. It was a four month long siege but now it's over and the TV is back to it's awesome self. How long it lasts is another question, I'm appreciating every minute I have with it not knowing what the future may bring, funny how a TV viewing experience could become a metaphor for life.
