AVR-1713 subwoofer issue

Hi there,

I just got a Paradigm CT100 system and so far only setup the 2 fronts and sub. I'm having an issue where the subwoofer is barely playing anything even though its on max. I checked the receiver and even put the sub output on max (+12db) and still barely does anything.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm using the premium coaxial cable from mono price and when I touch it with my hand, it makes that buzzing noise on the woofer. I also tried switching the phase and there's no diff.

Any help appreciated please!

Did you set the speakers & sub up in the avr with Audyssey first? What sound mode are you listening in?

Did you plug in the mic and run audyssey on your system?

Are your other speakers set to small?

They're set to small. I ran audessy and it didn't change much in terms of volume. I also turned EQ off to see if it would make a diff.

Might be an issue with the sub but what sound mode were you listening in? Did you max out the gain on the sub? Try other positions for the gain on the sub?

I tried all the diff positions on the sub. Adjusting gain, crossover, phase.

It was just the normal sound mode.

Do you think it could be the cable?

I don't have a 1713 but it has a sound mode called "normal"? How about stereo? direct? pure? etc. Also, what was the source of what you were listening to?

I'd definitely swap cable and see if that's the issue as I've got more rca cable than I know what to do these days smile.gif

Yes, I actually figured it out yesterday and it was this sound mode that was the issue. When using airplay from my iPhone, it was set to direct, which produced nothing to the sub. When I switched it to Stereo, the LFE went to the sub. I'm not sure why this is the case though.

Because on some systems direct or pure type modes can bypass any processing in your avr. Somewhat depends on your selections for bass management options (not familiar with your particular avr, you might try the dedicated thread for your avr).
