Dat added value!

Seems like Sony has no problem passing on value for requiring plus paywall for MP gaming (for 1st party). Hopefully this keeps up for ALL their first party titles.

Maybe it'll even pressure 3rd party to make better DLC, or be smarter about what they charge for. If we're already paying for it, I expect to see quite a bit of support for MP in ways that weren't previously possible (content, longevity, quality, ect).

Lol, to me that reads more like "we didn't finish the MP maps in time." I bet it ships with a tiny amount of them like BFBC2, and then they add them in over time.

Guess well see. GG was big on map packs, but the community was never super large like other FPS, so it really fractured the community further.

Also don't think anyone really bought the last map pack for KZ3 (when I had the collection I could never find anyone playing it)

Even if the maps are "late", that never stops a company from charging us for it (even if the DLC is already hidden on the retail disc). Kudos to GG for doing the right thing with free maps, especially since it applies to any maps released a full year from launch if it is successful enough.

Yup, that was a huge problem on other games like GRAW. If you don't buy the map packs you are left out of playing quite often.

I'd like to see this "Free DLC" (IE just long term support), along with dedicated servers announced for all 1st party platform titles.

Let's see that forced MP sub really work to our benefit!

The problem with the PS3 was that they made terribly hard hardware thinking that other publishers would have to work hard to get up to their level and that would drive quality. Heh, nope. That cost way too much on top of being technically demanding.

Better idea is just to offer you customers much higher value yourself, and let publishers react to the market that is favoring you for the great ideas and support you put out there. Dedicated servers, long term support and updates of all Sony titles; that's the ticket.

I love the idea of free maps. I hate paying for a new area to shoot other people. The only concern is that was one way for the devs to make up any lost money on second hand sales. Hopefully people knowing that the dlc will be free will make them hold onto the game longer.

I like the idea of free everything. But as long as we're talking about what's essentially a business venture, if there's any one thing you can be certain of, is that you get what you pay for. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe theyre unfinished, maybe they're finished and they just holding back, maybe they're half assed remakes of old maps. Best case scenario it's a loss leader to build up the installbase and the prestige of the franchise...I just wouldn't get used to the idea of free maps.

It is bait to get more people to buy a first party release, hopefully digitally and get more people onto Plus. And it is working...

How is it working when the game isn't even out yet?

They convinced me, the game was a complete pass until Gamescom.

I don't know how many folks here played Brink, but the maps in that video look like they were stolen straight from Brink's MP. Still excited about this game and will have it day one, just surprised.

grrr, work blocks youtube....

Does he ever die? I know its probably editing all the bad out but seriously he gets pounded, swaps to a grenade and wipes people out. I'm wondering if it was easy AI or just stupid players.

It's all edits of his kills, which is what Youtube has a ton of for FPS games. It doesn't reflect the quality of the A.I. or his opponents.

Great looking action. I particularly love the meaty sound FX, even coming from a Youtube clip.

Is it me or does it look like most of the guns have like little to no recoil? Like shooting with lasers? Aiming down the sights and the gun not moving up from firing. All in all the visuals look amazing but I'm not liking the sound effects.

Game isn't balanced at all, then on top of that there's a perk the guy earns where it's reduced further. It's on the to do list.

As for sounds, that kill confirmation bleep is the best thing in gaming ever. Only outdone by the chirp for getting a headshot.

Also, you guys want eye candy, throw the uncompressed vid up on your PS3 / HDTV:

I loved the beep when you got a kill, I remember after playing KZ for a few hours I would still hear the beep even after I had the game turned off smile.gif

Looks like they're using MLAA, which explains the screen caps being aliased. Didn't really know much about it, but here's a write up on it:
Quote:
Our new morphological anti-aliasing technique works as a post process effect. In other words, we finish rendering each frame normally, but before presenting it to the display; we run it through another shader pass to perform the filtering. This differs from traditional multi-sample and super-sample AA techniques where the filtering occurs during the rendering of each frame. In fact, this technique can eliminate aliasing for still images, though it’s intended to work better when in motion.

The filter works by first detecting high contrast edges with various pixel-sized patterns that are normally associated with aliasing, and assumes they should actually be straight lines that are not aligned to pixel edges. It then estimates the length and angle of the ideal line for each edge, and determines the proportional coverage by the lighter and darker color for each pixel along the edge. Finally it uses this coverage information to blend the colors for each pixel.

***

AMD has provided a utility that runs the same code as the driver on screenshots to filter them just like they would look in-game with Morphological AA enabled. It is this utility we have to use to show you image quality comparison today because of the nature of post-processing, it cannot be captured from a FRAPS screenshot. Meaning, if you take a screenshot in-game with Morphological AA enabled, it will not show up in your screenshot. The utility takes the non-antialiased screenshot and applies the code from the driver that is applied in your games, to produce Morphological AA filtering on the image. This way, we can show you exactly what you will see in your game when you apply Morphological AA.

Sony is reportingly working on their own higher performance / better looking version as well.

Good lord it does that 60 times a second for the entire screen? I can't comprehend how much math that would be.

Those shots look like they have the MLAA already applied. Pure MLAA (or FXAA) is a quick and dirty filter that gets rid of only some aliasing. The more heavily they apply it, the blurrier everything gets, so it just looks like they a used a light touch.

The really good ones are the combination post process and multi/supersampling AA techniques like SMAA and TXAA, but they still have a significant performance hit.

Was this posted already? I haven't watched yet but I believe it is a hq video.

Yeah, that's a direct HD feed of the multiplayer video we were discussing above. The game is looking great!

Yes!

Seems like they want to give you BF3 levels of server control, but dialed up to 11 to include every and any option.

My wish list: Dedicated servers, Server browser, Return of clan matches / system, Ranked private matches (XP & Unlocks, stats just don’t count for leaderboards), Return of enemy proximity chat.

Make it happen GG.

1080P60 MP confirmed. Also, some other little nuggets.

Fixed. Some dope had it as part of a playlist and it buggered the embedding.

I really hope they bring the bundle that was announced for Europe on this game. The PS4, Killzone, the camera, and an extra controller for 500 is an awesome deal.
