Blasphemy! PGR 3 and 4 were two of the best games in the 360 era!

Oops, looks like I have mixed up my game franchises. I was actually referring to Metropolis Street Racer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_Street_Racer. PGR was the successor to that game (same studio), and I guess over the years I muddled the two together.

I have never owned a 360 and have therefore never played any of the PGR games. If they are like MSR, though, my comment still stands...
If the MSR/PRG franchise is a "simcade", people just might be in luck here since my impression is that's the sort of blend that they're aiming for. Arcade physics but still some rough grounding in real world physics.

But to me, a simcade is something like the Gran Turismo franchise where it's a blend of the two and straddles the line between arcade and simulation. Just enough realism to give the illusion of it being a simulation but not so much as to make it inaccessible to the general public and unplayable with a gamepad like something like iRacing would be if it appeared on a console. Thus, there's a little something there for everyone rather than appealing to a smaller subsection of racing game fans.

To me, something like Project Gotham Racing 3 was strictly an arcade racer. Not completely dialed towards the arcade end of the spectrum like a game like Outrun or Ridge Racer is, but much more towards it than the middle ground that I think of when I picture what a simcade is.
Gran Turismo and Forza are NOT simcade. I'd hardly call Forza Horizon simcade. Maybe console grade simulation would be better, because yes, it is dumbed down compared to what is on PC, but on the spectrum from Ridge Racer to iRacing, those games fall closer to iRacing.

Forza Horizon and PGR are definitely simcade and if Driveclub turns out like them I'm fine with that. To me that style is the best compromise.

Holy cow I wonder what happened? They were a week away from making discs when they delayed it, so either they discovered a major problem or they're adding features. Adding features and content would be better.

That'sa very long delay. Hopefully it works out for the best. So we get drive club in 2014, drive club 2 in 2015, and gran turismo in 2020.

Edit: Whoops, I meant gran tursimo 7 prologue in 2020.

If it is enough time to turn it into Motorstorm then it is worth it biggrin.gif

A fun rumor I read somewhere was that its getting VR treatment for the supposed headset rumored to be announced next week.

As long as it's more like the original and less like Pacific Rift then I'm with you.

DriveClub game director leaves Evolution Studios
Who is leading efforts on delayed PS4 racer now

Quote:
DriveClub's game director Col Rodgers has left Evolution Studios, VideoGamer.com can reveal.
col rodgers -

Rodgers left the studio in February to form indie startup Big Red Switch Games, a development studio that he says is working on "some cool game concepts".

Rodgers also confirmed to VideoGamer that his departure is not connected to today's wave of layoffs, which saw redundancies at Evolution, Guerrilla Cambridge and Sony London Studios.

However, with Rodgers out it isn't yet clear who will be leading development on Evolution's delayed PS4 racer in his place.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Sony had previously taken DriveClub "back to the drawing board", although the game is still technically due to launch in early 2014.

Sony claims that the development of DriveClub "will not be affected" by today's layoffs.

I love that he called this "insider" out on all the false crap he posted. Hopefully the OP gets a ban or something.

Yeah, Mort got a ban over this, and it is likely a perma. Not only did he fail to properly fact check his info (already a temp ban), he slandered someone in such a way that his career could be ruined over it. (Worth a perma ban if you ask me) I'll keep an eye on Mort's twitter for the next few days to see what he says, but the age of chatty gaf insiders may be done.

To be fair, these guys do have industry contacts, and cboat did work closely with Microsoft. There is a reason that people run with what they say, the amount of stuff they have gotten correct in the past is impressive, but they let that go to their head and end up screwing up. (At least in the case of Mort and Thuway, Cboat is a very different story)
I checked his twitter, and he offered a full appology to Col, and confirmed he got perma banned from gaf for what he posted. (Which was "office gossip" as he put it. He won't be posting any more insider info anywhere.

Wasn't cboat wrong about titanfalls resolution and textures?

That is part of the story. By all accounts Titanfall should have shipped like that to improve the framerate.

Many believe that Cboat was busted and Microsoft hijacked his account during the nkernl controlled leaks.

Really? Let me go get my tin foil so we can talk about that conspiracy theory.

His posting style changed around the Xbox One launch and he started spreading easily disproven stuff after that. It seems odd considering some of his past leaks. (Like the entire 360 spec list months before Microsoft revealed it, and entire NPD sales data)
That just seems a little far fetched. I don't see why MS would need to take the time to hack into someones account, something that I am sure they would get in trouble for, just to discredit it. To me, it sounds like people just trying to blame MS for something else. But back on topic, I am hoping that Drive Club comes out soon. I got tired of the same 14 tracks on forza and gave it to my brother when he got his XB1. I want a good racer to play.

Definitely agree here, I'm pretty intrigued by Drive Club and it's really my next big anticipated game. Maybe it won't be delayed quite as long as it was sounding for a while.

Some good intentioned lackey grabbing a persons logon isn't too far fetched though. I'm not one to latch onto conspiracies but there have been precedents in other companies/industries like that. I seriously doubt that Microsoft would condone it as a company though. Who knows, maybe the guy is bipolar or grabbed the wrong Koolaid...

Companies usually hire others to do that so if it blows up they can just say they had no idea. (Like the astroturfing, all on the PR firm doing it, not Microsoft who hired them)

If Cboat was busted and they discovered his logon in his seized computer they could have easily used it to post whatever they want. They could even use that same computer to do it from the same ip address.

Or maybe some other idiot hacked his account. Which sounds far more likely, to me.

Anyway, this thread really is about DriveClub, so let's let this die and get it back on topic, shall we?
