Honestly I think 60fps locked is more important, but Id like that too.

1080/30 locked, 720/60 locked and absolutely nothing under 720 would be fine IMO. Its not like your sitting 5 inches from your large screen TV.

I am primarily a pc player. So 1080p is a must. Playing black ops 2 a few feet from my 60 inch plasma is nice. But when I play battlefield 3 it just looks horrible up close. I just hope that the eagle eye converter will come up with something quick so I can use my mouse and keyboard!

We'll see these flavors for the most part:

1080P @60fps

1080P @30 fps

720P  @60 fps

It'll be up to the developers, and woe unto him that significantly dips below those three. As an example, the new Killzone game on the PS4 is confirmed to be 1080P @30 fps.

Lastly, keep in mind that if the rumors of a 4K PS4 are true, we'll even see some 3D 1080P @60fps releases, which is not possible without 4K tech.

I am really curious to see what the PS4 does for 3d gaming. With the current consoles, the graphical hit between 2d and 3d is very noticeable on a big screen and some major improvement is needed which I would think the PS4 would bring.

I'll be 9' from a 96" 16:9 display so 1080p is a big deal for me. It would be nice if some games offered scope but that probably is a very niche segment.

Is scope gaming a rumored possibility? Now that would be fantastic, but I just dont see it happening considering how small the market is. I have been doing some NLS with my Lumagen to fill up my 2.35 screen for SSX lately and it is fantastic, but would love to see some native scope games. I know the PC can do scope gaming, so maybe this could happen with PS4?

Some tidbits.

On 3D support for PS4

No, it's not a focus, but it does [support 3D]. More games will run at 1080p and 60 frames-per-second, so it's an easier and better experience when you watch on 3D TV. We like what we can do on PS3 using 3D, but now the consumer electronics side [of Sony Corp.] has shifted focus from 3D TV to something else, so if they are not talking about it, why are we?

Looking at the bandwidth available to the GPU, 1080p/60 will actually be pretty easy. 176GBps is a good step over my Radeon 6870 and Geforce GTX 660's 144GBps, both of which easily hold 60fps at 1080p. Unfortunately, what we are likely to really see is 1080p/30 for the first couple of years as developers choose slightly fancier effects over framerate. It's sad too as 720p/60 is a significantly better experience than 1080p/30, for the same rendering cost. 1080p/60 with slightly lower quality lighting and physics is also a better experience than 10806/30 that is a touch prettier.

While an individual developer is pretty smart, dev studios are pretty dumb, so what do you expect.
