I want Home Theater too! Is it too late?

New to this world of HT buff! But now getting addictive to this passion.
Short Background: Working thru the basement for last 4 months. I was working with a Handyman but let him go after Drywall and ceiling, since then working alone. I just had 2nd coat of Mud completed. I was initially not thinking of Home theater setup but now motivated to have the HT build in along with other stuff like Pool and card table. I am planning to carve out work/office corner as well

Now that’s poor thought process on my part but these are the issues I am battling-

1- Insulation top down to 2 feet below Freeze Grade (I would say 2/3 length of wall ) and No insulation in basement ceiling
2- And of course no sound proofing done, What should I do retrofit for better sound or would it be ineffectual at this point. What would be a good sound system to go with in this situation?
3- What would you suggest from the Projector stand point. I was motivated to buy Epson Power Lite Pro 6010 or something in that range.
4- Would you have suggestion in doing setup wirelessly? I was biased since I don’t have Speakers and other AV wires in place.
5- What would you suggest on the placement of screen. I was thinking of doing screen (120”) Refer diagram below.

I am going to post actual picture soon. Any suggestion/comments/tweet is most welcome.

1. Start planning your room. Read through the million build threads on this site. Look at the Deidcated theater page's "Show me your..." for some ideas.
2. Don;t worry about actual expuipment selection yet. Start to set a budget for the project and you'll get a better handle on equipemnt once you know what you want to do.
3. No reason you can't wire in speakers, jus involves cutting and patching
4 .Sounds like your lookng for more of an open layout vs a dedicated theater. "Soundproffing" is preventing outside sounds from entering and preventing the sounds from the theater from disturbing other parts of your house. There are other things you can do to give the room better sound (better speakers, fabric wall panels, bass traps, etc)
5. You can use blown insulation for the ceiling

Thanks so much for taking time to reply. Your suggestion on 'Show me your...' was great.
I cant do ceiling now since its already dry-walled. More I see around I think, I would end up using fabric wall panels? Tonight I am going to upload some pictures.
Any other suggestion most welcome...

I agree - cutting drywall, running the cables you want, patching drywall, and painting, is actually pretty easy, so I've read. I have a great and affordable paint/drywall guy.

Run all the cables you can think of now, and you'll never run new cables again. Over the years, you'll change equipment, but not the cables. Start off cheap on equipment, to get the system up and running. Upgrade over the next 20 years, as budget allows.

Is that shelf centered with the area where the screen will go? Doesn't look like it from the picture...

You should prepare yourself to make a number of holes in that drywall. In the grand scheme, cutting it all up now to get everything done right will be the right answer, and you'll be much happier in the long run. Painful to "take a step backwards", but at least it's not textured and painted!

Think about ceiling-mounting that projector, centered in the space and at a good throw distance.

Jeff, just saw your thread and still reading. Awesomely awesome piece of art! Period!
And thanks for suggestion. I don’t like project hanging… may be because its 7.4” height ceiling and I wanted to have projector that can be subtle but fully functional.
Yes, it’s about 1 foot off center from that wall. There is a crawl space behind it and I cover the opening with the shelf. It was my fear too, should I borrow projector from my friend to see how off I am?

And I have started fishing wires from that shelf to Projector area.…

What things can you do wirelessly? Any thoughts?

7'4" is probably still enough to flush mount the projector, but understood. You didn't list the ceiling height so I didn't know for sure...

A foot off center isn't too bad. Lens shift can take care of that, but we really don't like using horizontal lens shift if it can be avoided.

Nothing that a wire can't do better and cheaper. Since you're pulling wires anyway, get everything in there you need so you don't have to mess with any wireless gear (except for remotes, obviously).
