I have a cld79 that will not play my LD' s . It plays CD's fine. I hit play and it loads the LD spins up and then in about 5 seconds it quits and throws a P5 error. P5 says its the PAL Disc ??, mirror disc?? etc.PLAY?? , No RF? What are all of these? I downloaded the service manual which was not a lot of help.

So I've got this question, when in operation should you be able to see the laser? I see nothing with all the lights out .I see nothing when its playing the CD yet its playing them.
I am suspecting the pickup, How do I test it.

Where can I find parts?

Thanks, Jim Smith

There is a capacitor in the video section which commonly goes bad. The Video circuit is not used to play CD's so that is why they play fine. You can sent it to me to fix if you don't want to pull it apart and solder parts.

I can work PC boards. How do I identify the capacitor.

If I were to send it to you, what is the procedure?

If you send it to me a can check and fine tune the alignments, replace the spindle motor grip ring with a new one plus fix this if the cap and fuse are the only problem for $100 + return shipping. Or I can help you. Email is kbahr(at)comcast.net
