i mainly watch directv which outputs mostly at 5.1 dolby digital. i have a 7.1 setup and i am wondering what is the best way to listen to dolby digital 5.1 with my 7.1 setup? does dolby pllx movie output at real 5.1 dolby digital and the just simulate the surround rears for 7.1 or is all channels simulated? hmmm what is the best way to listen to real dolbly digital 5.1 with a 7.1 setup for movies ?
this all gets kind of confusing, sorry.
thanks

Yes, I think so. I think DDPLIIx is a perfectly plausible choice for listening to DD5.1 on DirecTV on a 7.1 system, and I have often done that. Depending on your receiver, there may be other choices to try out. I'm listening to Master and Commander at the moment on 5MAXHD using Neo:X CINEMA, and it sounds good.
