budget sub worth it?

I have a Yamaha 573 receiver and Infinity p363 tower front left and right speakers. I am looking at adding a powered sub, but am running low on funds and the wife's patience.

I was going to pull the trigger on one of those budget subs like the Polk psw-10 that's on sale for $80 on Amazon right now, but I noticed on the specs that the frequency only goes down to about 40hz. My tower speakers go down that low. Should I wait until I can afford a little better of a sub, or will it still improve my overall sound?

Don't throw your money away on the Polk sub. If money is tight and you can save a tad more money go the DIY route with a Parts Express sub.

Like everyone else has said. Hold off until you can at least start out with a sub like the Bic America F12.

it's a little over $200 right now but it's not usually that high. It will probably dip back below $200 at some point. It can be found on Amazon also.

Save your money as the sub you suggested will not go low enough to do what you want; improve the lower octaves of a sound track.

As was suggested by others, save you money and buy up. My recommendations is something along the lines of a Klipsch, RW-12d or a BIC, PL-200.

If you only have $80 to spend, then go ahead and get the polk sub. I would guess that even though your mains are rated down to 40 hz, the extra sub will make the lower frequencies sound better. As other have written, you can get a much better sub if you can up your budget to the $200-$300 range.
