Hello out there.

I'm gonna upgrade my sound card, maybe one of the above.
I'm running the sound from my sound card to my receiver(which will be upgraded soon to).
I'm gonna get a Beyerdynamic DT 990 premium 250 ohm headphone, which will be running from the receiver.
I have looked at the Asus Essence STX which should be pretty nizzle but 200 USD is alot. Then the Xonar DG which should be real good bang for the bucks about 35 USD. Last i have got a good deal on the Fatal1ty Champion Series for 70 USD which is 6-8 months old, and everything is included.

The card gonna be used for Games such af BF3, BF4, some RPG and such.
70% music 30% gaming.

Anyone have tried some of the above?.

If your getting 250 ohm you should get the one with headphone amp. I know the asus does as I have the essence st. Dont know bout the others. I'm on my phone now and not going to look them up.

that is the plus with the stx and creative, I'm sure th creative does have an amp, but not sure how powerful.
but most of the time, the headphone will be driven from my receiver, only sometimes they will be driven directly from the card it self

I have a 250 ohm DT880 and can tell you without a good amp to drive it you're going to be dealing with low volumes.

But my receiver will be used as the AMP/DAC most of the time, so it's only when i don't have my receiver next to me smile.gif.
That's where the Asus Xonar DG, comes to play, cheap, and don't have an expensive amp. But again, when I don't have the receiver at me, that card card run the Headphones that well.
Unless i'm gonna get an external headphone AMP, but not sure if such one is better than a 1.500 $ surround receiver for driving headphones.
