Few questions for LMS Ultra 5400 owners

Just a few questions...

What did you use to seal the driver? Gasket tape from parts express, or...

What is the volume of the driver? Anyone have the exact figure?

Is 2400 watts (actual measured output) enough in approximately 3.25 cu ft?

Thanks

1) I used nothing (It was fine without).

2) Never calculated it redface.gif

3) 2.4 to 5.0kW should give really good results.
All I can say is that 1-channel of a clone 10kQ is not sufficient, but 1-channel of an iTech 8000 or clone 14k is.

Hmmm...at least one member strongly recommends NOT to use the gasket tape from PE:

Simple closed cell foam from any big box store will work fine. I personally don't use it anymore and have never had issues with leaks. YMMV.

I've used the PE tape or the Home Depot 1/2" weather stripping on every build I've ever done and they've all were fine and I've never had any problems removing the drivers or had any of the problems in the thread that was posted. I've installed hundreds of driver this way and will continue to do so.

I used the parts express Gasket tape and it works great.

I broke an LMS with approx 4000w on the final battle scene in HTTYD.

The LMS is not indestructible , so you still need to be careful with it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I won't worry too much about the sealing issue and will probably just see what is available at Home Depot.

JapanDave - did you damage the cone or the voice coil? What size enclosure was it in? I will be careful, but I think I won't need to worry too much with 2.4Kw. I was thinking it might be slightly under powered if anything.

So it doesn't seem that anyone knows the amount of volume taken up by the driver?

I think I used the gasket putty from PE. It was cheap and did the trick for that extra piece of mind.

Because he has no idea what he's doing.

I'm pretty sure the driver is .4 of a cf. At least thats what my memory tell me lol

Yes, the OP in that thread seemed clueless. It was actually a different member that I was referring to (5th post down).

I just emailed TC Sounds to double check and Thilo indicated that the driver occupies .34 cu ft of space. So, you were pretty close!

Drivers can be stubborn to remove after a few weeks when installed with PE gasket tape, but the solution is simple. Loosen the screws on the driver, but not enough that the driver can fall out, and after a few hours to sometimes a day the driver will be easy to remove again.

Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I won't find a reason to remove the driver, but you never know.
