Which one first?

I'm looking to buy my 1st of a 2 meter setup (a spectro + colorimeter) so obviously I read the thread about having an i1pro + D3. So, I'm thinking an used spectro + new D3/sw bundle...but is an i1basic the same?

sounds like you are asking about the X-Rite i1Basic kit which does include the i1Pro Spectro.

I found an x-rite i1basic floor model with warranty for $300 delivered but it doesn't specify revD?
I see a few x-rite meters with names like 'EFI ES-1000 GretaMacbeth X-rite i1PRO eye-one pro/basic/proof revD' (or some variation) and I'm certain these all refer to the spectros but if it doesn't specifically say revD is it an older model? If I don't get a revD am I screwed? Should I just buy the basic or shop for revD?

no earlier ones are support all as a i1Pro Spectro... EFI ES-1000 uv-cut is fine for our purposes as well..

I do believe (I may be wrong) that the i1Basic labeled kit were the Rev D's but don't hold me to that

There is a x-rite sticker between the I1pro's two back feet, the sticker has the vin number and will say REV.D
Also I would think it a good idea to get the same plate with the white dot for white readings to reset the meter, that came with the I1pro. The vin number is on the plate and that number should match the vin on the meter.

Don't guess make sure and ask.

If it doesn't have the plate ss mentions, or the plate and meter numbers don't match, I wouldn't buy it. The plate is used for dark cals (which you can do by covering the meter opening with your hand or other material) and for meter diagnostics with the I1Diagnostics software. It's the diagnostics that make the plate/meter match critical.

Ok I just received an used i1proof uvcut (EOPRFTUV). It was a display model at a store so it came with a whole package of stuff including a one year warranty and a calibration certificate dated 2007.
1. Does it need to be recalibrated immediately or can I have it done when I'm proficient enough to deserve it?
2. It's the first time being used Do I need to run diagnostics program?
3. Do I need to install the software that came with it in order to use it with calman or hcfr etc?
Sorry for all the questions but the instructions are extremely lacking.

For #1, I doubt it
#2, I'd probably do it to check all is well.
CalMan has the driver in the driver pack (which are X-Rite's),

For ColorHCFR, it depends on what version of ColorHCFR you are running,
for the older 2.x version, I have info here about using/setting up a i1Pro with ColorHCFR Here
for the newer 3.x fork of ColorHCFR, you will be using the argyllcms drivers (these are 3rd party, not X-Rite)

v2.x: http://www.avsforum.com/t/983943/colorhcfr-v2-0-available
v3.x http://www.avsforum.com/t/1393853/fork-of-hcfr-started-whats-needed/360

You won't need the provided software to use it with CalMAN.

CalMAN supports the i1Pro natively. You will still need to have the drivers loaded though. You can get the drivers either direct from X-Rite or as part of our driver pack.

I love this forum. I am never prepared for the level of maturity I encounter here. Thank you for the prompt and helpful reply and for the future replies Im sure.
EDIT: Also since It looks like I'm going to buy some decent software at some point I might as well get a bundle like the calMAN/i1D3. I could afford that in about 3 months. Or I could wait 8+ mo and I could buy a chromapure/accupel bundle or sump....is an accupel even advisable or will a i1pro/d3 combo serve me better in the start?.....Nevermind I just answered my own question lol
