sonotube build pics

figured i would post my sonotube build pics...it is by no means anything special...but it was my first diy project...actually...almost first diy of any kind...i was going to post the step by step process i followed only because for a first time builder...there were a lot of unknowns...but to do it again would be relatively simple...if anyone is starting out and would care to know...pm me and i will send over the excel sheet...

SUBWOOFER = Dayton DVC310-88 12" Subwoofer (chose this sub because of price / decent xmax / winisd plots)
AMPLIFIER = BIC F12 AMP (temporary) | BASH 300 (soon enough)
SONOTUBE = 14" Diameter (16 would have made things easier for the legs - ended up using wood dowels)
PORT = 4" Precision Port Flared (22.75" Length)
TUNE ~ 18 Hz
INTERNAL NET VOLUME = 4 cu. ft.

i dont have any of the hardware to record the output...but i am very pleased with the output...sounds great...im sure i will be building another...either to make a pair...or maybe one 18...

Well done!

Stuff like this interests me as it seems to be similar to the bic f12 as they're both using 12" subs and use about the same amount of power. How's it compare to the bic?

BTW, that's one tall sub... How long was the sonotube?

Good job on the build as it looks like you did a great job for your first time! smile.gif

Great job. That hardly looks like a first time build.

I'm not sure a comparison right now, while he's using the Bic amp would be ideal. The Bic is a much smaller undersized box tuned to somewhere is the 30hz range. The amp likely has a 30hz filter to protect the original sub. Once he adds the Bash it will be a whole new ball game. This sub will will have a tremendous advantage below 30hz compared to the bic.

Good job cnp112!

thanks guys...really appreciate the feedback...honestly the sonosub sounds much better than the bic and that with the bic's amp...it is definitely louder and more assertive with the low end than the bic..and it definitely blends better with my mains than the bic did...this coming from my wife as well...

as jay has stated...i imagine it should sound even better with the bash...

The sub looks great. Glad it turned out so well and you're happy with it. If you're like the rest of us you'll be building more down the road.

thanks...you know...i thought i would give it a few months...but i find myself trying to find an excuse to move on to another build already....maybe a buddy needs a new sub...i definitely enjoyed the project...it was a great learning experience as well (tools/materials...acoustics...tuning...resonances...etc)...
