Need assitance with new (to me) setup. Multi room two receiver setup

I am purchasing a home that has 4 rooms wired for sound - all wiring coming in to a central location. One room is wired for 5.1 surround and the other three zones are wired for stereo. The current setup is a two receiver system with a speaker selector.

The speakers, wiring and speaker selector will be staying with the house. The receivers will not.

What is the reccomended way to power this 4 zone system? Stick with the two receiver setup? If so, any reccomendations? Also, I do want to be able to have one of the inputs (DirecTV) play through both receivers. What is the best way to accomplish that?

Thank you in advance for your reccomendations.

(better asked in the Home A/V Distribution forum)

If you're fine with the 3 other rooms all being in one 'zone", the speaker selector and 2-zone AVR will work fine. Get one with either a "powered zone 2", or buy an inexpensive external amplifier (AudioSource AMP-100) with auto on/off to run the 2nd zone.

And yes, any AVR with 2nd zone support will be able to play the same or different sources in either zone. The caveat is that most AVRs will only route analog inputs to the 2nd zone, so you will probably need to run RCA cables from your DirecTV box in addition to the digital audio (coax/optical) cable for it to work properly.

If you want better than that, start reading in the Home A/V Distribution forum about Whole House Audio systems...
