2 Klipsch or 1 SVS

Thread Starter
I currently have a set of Klipsch reference speakers RF82 II ,64 II , 62II snd an SVS 23-39cs cylinder sub with a denon 2809ci AVR

My room is approx. 10 x 22

I saw a sale on Klipsch Reference RW 12d sub - my Q is- would I be better off with 2 of these Klipsch or my 1 SVS
Also - my equip is in a separate equip room, and the SVS sub (being passive, just has standard speaker cables going to it (coming from the walls) - would the Klipsch subs require different cabling (which woudl be a problem as my HT is already finished)

thanks

In my opinion, you'd be better served by powered RW-12d's connected with some standard shielded subwoofer cables to your AVR.

Subscribing. Currently asking myself a similar question, 2 rw-12d's or one sub of equal price ($600 or less)
I think that people should be thinking of the RW12D as a $700 sub. There are reviews of this sub in that price range and is was well thought of, about middle of the pack at 700 a couple years ago. So when the single for 600 question comes up I personally don't think you will out perform ONE of these by much at all. Two of these would for sure be better that one other at $600.

So you think 2 RW-12d would be better than 1 Rythmik LV12R?

^^
I like the Rythmik but no, two rw-12d are probably better.

Two RW12-d's or one Rythmik LV12R? That's a pretty tough one. I would say it comes down to what you want. Do you want lower extension while sacrificing a few db's in output and room response? Or would you rather 3db of added spl with better in room bass response while sacrificing anything below 23Hz?

It's a tough one.

I have two RW-12d's and they certainly dig deeper than 23hz. Mine go down to 18hz with authority.

That may be possible in your room, but you certainly didn't buy those subwoofers with the intentions of reaching that low. That's just a bonus and can't be relied on for decision making. It's very possible to have a room that only allows the RW12-d to play down to 25Hz.

But, comparing a subwoofer with a 23Hz -3db point and a 19Hz -3db point, it's safe to assume that the sub with the lower -3db point will play lower in the same room. Imagine how deep the LV12R would go with all that room gain.

One last thing, can you hear 18Hz?

He may not hear it...but I bet he can FEEL it.

not sure if it helps but I went with 2 rw-12d's should be here Thursday!

Well, I was just trying to get an idea of what sort of output levels he is reaching at 18Hz. If he can feel it then that's cool, but if he can hear it then it's at least 85db (about where it would be faintly audible).

I know that I can hear 20hz with mine in my room, substantially, on at least three different test tones and sweeps. I don't have a way to measure but it is substantial and not much below what it gives me at 30hz. So maybe it is below the specs of -3db but I am glad I can hear it. Below that I get lots of "movement" of the woofer and air pushing out of the port big time but can't hear it. My storage room door was rattling pretty good though.

I did some sine sweeps and they are very strong at 18hz. biggrin.gif

Out of curiosity, when measured, what do they measure at, at 18Hz and on the same graph, what do they measure at twenty-five Hz?

For a comparison, the last measurement I took a few minutes ago, from 25Hz to 20Hz, the graph is down 15dB. The boxes are tuned at 28Hz.

As another comparison, using the REW provided spectrogram, our subs go down to 23Hz with authority.

My question is not a challenge but a curiosity of how much slope do you have when posting the subs are strong at 18Hz.

It seems like you are getting some really nice room gain here. With that amount of room gain you can almost expect the LV12R to reach 16Hz with the strength that your Klipsch's hit around 22Hz.
