Harmony 510 - IR or RF setup for HT Closet?

Thread Starter
Next weekend I plan on moving the HT equipment from the TV stand to the closet under the staircase (directly behind the wall). I currently have the following equipment that I will be moving out of line of sight:

Denon AVR-1713
DirecTV HD DVR (HR-22 I believe)
HTPC (Win 7 Ultimate controlled by wireless Logitech Keyboard w/touchpad, usb)
Sony PS3

In addition to the above, I have the following equipment to round out my setup:

LG 60" PK550
Wii U
Harmony 510 Remote

I think the cheapest/easiest solution is to get an IR repeater setup, but I figured I would ask the experts before I make the purchase. I am also open to an Android App that could control all of the devices and eliminate the need of an additional outlet.

In total, the project consists of removing the AV stand from our living room (new floor coming soon) and mounting the TV and center channel on the wall. The Wii U is small enough to leave on the center channel w/o much visual distraction. The remaining equipment will have to be placed elsewhere.

Any helpful advice for my little project would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure what you're asking. Are you trying to keep the 510? Are you try to add any functionality to your existing remote, like PS3 control or HTPC control? Are you looking for a low cost solution?

To keep the functionality you have today, I'd just get a Next Generation RF system. It's cheap and easy to set up. An IR repeater requires that you aim at a device near your TV, which conflicts with the clean look you're trying to achieve.

For an android solution, you'll need some sort of IP-IR gateway device in addition to some software. For PS3 control you'll need another IR gateway device. For HTPC control with your remote, you'll need an IR-USB dongle.

Sorry, I don't have an answer here... But I am in the same boat. In my closet will be, at the minimum, cable box, HTPC, receiver. Maybe an Xbox too if I can get my wiring squared away as the TV for the XBox is in a separate room where I've only got Cat5 and Coax pre-run.

The RF remote set up by itself seems expensive (at least from my limited research at Best Buy) once I get myself a good RF remote and receiver. Any recommendations on a cheap Next Gen RF system?

The IR repeater I thought would be the cheapest and I'd just have the 'eye' sticking out of my wall, with the IR receiver in the closet. Any thoughts on this?

I just started my research on IP to IR transmitters, where I'd buy a tablet or two to control everything. Any suggestions on this topic? Including apps out there?

Thanks in advance...
