I guess we are just looking at this from 2 different POVs.
No harm, no foul.

One big problem is AMPAS continues to use a film producer to produce a TV show. Hire a real TV show producer that can handle a live 3 hour show and know how to time it correctly.

That sounds like the ticket....

In fairness though this show is really produced by Michael Seligman. That's why it is so consistent from year to year even though the producers change all the time and the directors have more recently changed more than in the past. Don Mischer of course has produced more awards shows and entertainment specials than just about anyone out there. So one of the reasons the Academy can hire movie producers to do a show like this is because in some ways the team of the show is so consistent that the producers can simply focus on content. I would say the average person working on this show has done it for 15 years, some have done 20 - 30 shows. Michael Seligman has been the co-producer along with Danette Herman since the early 70s, close to 40 shows.

SM definately takes some getting used to.I like him (a lot) but I can see how he might seem to have the sensibility of a 6th grade boy. But it was a boy who pointed out the emperor wasn't wearing clothes. And lets be honest. No matter how serious and high brow a film is...no matter what the subject matter. There is that moment while watching when every guy says "hey, I can see her boobs."

Or maybe its just me and Seth, I dunno.

I WILL pray for you two....

Not that it really makes a difference to the viewing audience, but I thought having the orchestra a few blocks away and having it piped into the theater was an excellent and innovative idea.

All I know is he made some invaluable contributions to my Netflix queue.

I would criticize, but it would be hypocrisy.

The way they hit their marks with Shirley Bassey's performance was especially noteworthy. There must have been some extensive rehearsals.
