Hello all... First post but long time lurker on these forums.
I'm in the process of doing my first major upgrade on my HTPC with a new case, motherboard, memory and RAM. I'll be using existing components from my previous system. Physically, my current setup is I have my TV wall mounted in my living room with a single HDMI ran to another room where all the equipment is (using an infrared repeater for remote use). On the top of the stand is a monitor that I duplicate with the TV.
My dad had given me a spare system so I can use the motherboard, cpu, and ram out of. Motherboard is an ASUS m4a785-m
With my previous setup I had used a dedicated ATI 5770 and was able to clone the diplay without any glitches. Setting up the new system with the integrated video I am able to clone the display (VGA & HDMI since HDMI & DVI isn't supported) however its only picking up the HDMI once in a while and takes a few reboots for it to detect. I've tried installing latest video drivers and flashed the BIOS but neither of those seem to have any effect.
I've come to the decision I'm going to bite the bullet and get a newer board/cpu/ram but just want to know if I can still go with a micro ATX board with integrated video or will it still behave like the current board I have? If so, then I'll get a full ATX board and use the 5770.
Summary of what I have in the Case.
Case: SilverStone LC16B-MR
Board: ASUS M4a785-M
Ram: 8 GB Corsiar
CPU: AMD QuadCore (not sure on the exact model)
PSU: Corsair 650watt
OS Drive: Crucial 128GB SSD
Data Drive: Western Digital 2TB x 3 (raid 5)
Hauppauge Colossus
HighPoint RocketRAID 2720SGL
I've tried some Google searches on dual display and integrated graphics however most results are dated 2009-2010. I'm not sure if integrated graphics from a newer board will give me the same trouble with cloned displays or not.
I appreciate any and all help.
EDIT: Half asleep here and forgot to put int what my intended use is.
95% of use will be in Windows Media Center for movies, TV shows, but I will also use Hauppauge WinTV for capturing.
