For one thing, it's SD, not HD. For the easy way, a TiVo (with a Lifetime Subscription) was a good choice. If you're more technically inclined, like myself, build a HTPC.
I run both the ReplayTVs (three 5XXXs - CBS, NBC, ABC) and a HTPC with WMC7 (SiliconDust HDHR3s and a Hauppauge PVR-1212) in parallel. Yes, the HD is much sharper @ the recommended 4' viewing distance
, but with my 'old eyes' (and a 32" Panasonic LCD HDTV @ ~12'), I can't tell much difference.
Plus, there's the built-in Commercial Advance on the ReplayTVs.
There are literally THOUSANDS of posts on the topic of 'Recording HDTV'. Folks just have to read and decide how they want to spend THEIR money. EDIT:
I clicked on the SUBSCRIBED LINK at the top of the page and just started reading this thread (where I had previously left off apparently), ignoring the dates. When I saw the reference to ReplayTV, I was inspired to post. It wasn't until AFTER I posted and got to the bottom of the page of 50 posts reading that I realized how many months old the post I replied to was... Edited by ClearToLand - 9/16/13 at 11:43am
