Replacing an SMX AT type screen

Hey guys, just trying to get an idea of the latest and greatest material for an AT screen setup. I bought some SMX material about 6 years ago and now i'm faced with replacing the material with new material due to damage to my SMX screen.

I was using a Mit DLP in a light controled room, the mits was the 4000 model, it sold for about $1,100 back when i purchased it.

The frame is 100"X42", its a CIH setup with a dual prism CAVX lens....

Dont even ask about the damage or i may just start crying :0)

SMX is a fairly higher gain AT material. As such, you should consider using a White Milliskin Spandex overlaid Light Silver Milliskin.

Both are easily obtainable via Spandex World at just $9.00 per yard.

The Spandex source links:

A recent "White over Light Silver" Spandex Screen project link:

Looks like things have gotten cheaper over the years.

So the matte white goes over the silver ? What are your thoughts of the acoustic pass through.....

Excellent performance for the price using the suggested type of Spandex. I wish I had more specific figures and expert testimony to quote, but as of now the only testing that has been done has revolved around the thicker "Moleskin" material.

So, what were you guys using as AT material before spandex. Are any screen manufactures selling material ?

I will probably go with spandex, but just weighing options

You have the Seymour XD Centerstage. You can buy the material and build your own screen.

Depending on how bad the damage is, you might try using the SMX as a backer material for milliskin spandex.

I have to start from scratch, the screen is done, sadly enough.

I emailed Chris and he sent out a sample. I found the price for my 100"x 42" to be very reasable, about half the cost of my original SMX material.......
