New receivers with 6 channel direct inputs?

I think you are flat out of luck on this one. If you want to go to an HDMI receiver you may as well get a new blue ray at the same time. the hdmi cares the same information as SACD. I was thinking of looking for a blue ray with scad for a AVR that I had with the scad in puts for loss/less audio, no luck on that so I replaced both and am pleased with the result.

I was just looking around avs and in the classifieds the is an Onkyo tx nr 1007 that does have a 7.1 input. you may want to check it out

You're not out of luck at all. The Marantz receivers have 7.1 analog inputs. And so do several of last years Onkyos.

Replacing your Yamaha DVD/SACD player with a $150 ($100 on sale) Sony BDP-S590 Blu-Ray player that supports SACD could be cheaper option even if you don't use its Blu-Ray functionality. This would let you use any AV recevier not just the more expensive models that have multichannel inputs. It would also let you use the bass management, room correction and other DSP effects of the receiver. The mulitchannel input of an AV receiver completely bypasses the DSP.

If you don't use your HTPC for games, that Sony Blu-Ray player with its network connectivity could potentially replace your HTPC as well.
