How can one find out when your i1 pro 2 has been last calibrated

Hi everyone,

It seems once you get the calibration bug, you burn holes in your wallet:)
So I got a i1 pro in a Calman bundle. The price was, well, just more atrractive vs getting one from another source.
The i1 pro has a manufacturer date somewhere in 2012. Since it is supposed to get recalibrated once in a while, how can you know when this has been last done?

Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction.

If you bought it new from Spectracal, I believe they verify it and should have provided a certificate with it like they do the C6. If you are not a pro, store the meter in a dark dry place and have not dropped it or played foot ball with it, you should not need to worry about recertification for many years.

I have not found a certificate in the box/case. There is the i1 pro 2 together with Calman control and there is an "enhanced version" which includes extra tables for white-LED displays. I decided to get the bundle with Calman control as I wanted to check out the software too. The enhanced meter is as expensive as the "normal" non-enhanced version with Calman control.

Anyway, I digress, may I ask whether you have an i1 pro 2 (perhaps a retail version) and got a certificate included? To be honest, I'm not sure what information is present on such certificate.
I've also asked X-rite and I'll be to report on their answer

I'm going to ask Joel on the spectracal forum too as he should better know what is incluced with the spectracal bundles.

No, I have a C6 which had the NIST Cert and I bought a used i1pro from a guy in FL that had bought it from Spectracal 14 months prior. He was selling off all his gear to go back to school as Calibrations didn't pay the bills. He also had a K10 and told me he used the i1pro to profile that K10 maybe a 3 or 4 times after which he didn't bother with profiling, so I considered it in new condition. Anyway, I have no plan on sending it in for certification as from everything I have read, they rarely go out of spec even after years of use. I did run xrite diags on it and all tests passed. I don't do this for a living so I see no need in spending the money on a cert at this point. May be worth having it checked in a couple of years but I don't feel the need to that now.

Just looked under the lid flap of my i1pro case and there is an Xrite certificate of Performance with the serial number and specs and date, listing next calibrations do 2 years from that date. So it looks like Xrite suggest recertification every 2 years..

You're right. I can sometimes go overboard fussing about some details. I too remember reading on various occasions that i1 pro's rarely go out of spec. Thanks for your thoughts!

Consider that I have had my i1 pro since 2003 and it still has not drifted. Within 1 dE of my Jeti Spectro ($12K meter)

IIRC, when you have the meter hooked up for a calibration, CalMAN reports the last calibration date. I believe it's under the advanced meter settings.

Which equates to where we found my i1Pro when we checked against your Jeti a year and a half ago. Quality meter, the i1Pro, no doubt.

Thanks for the tip Rolls-Royce. I've still got to install Calman. Going to keep my money and not get it recalibrated any time soon:)

Hi Michael,

I have a Colormunki Photo spectro.

I believe that its 'working parts' are similar if not identical to the i1 despite its shape difference.
I use it to profile a C6 and an OEM D3 and sometimes direct (if I have the time).

Would you expect similar consistency over time?

Yes ... but keep it in a dry environment ... to be safe. I live out west in the prairies here in the great white north and the climate is dry, dry. This may play a part into why my gear lasts so long. (Or why my laserdiscs never really experienced the dreaded "rot" for the old timers out there.)

this really shows the i1 pro is a great meter, both for enthusiasts and pros starting out... but is this performance typical of all affordable spectros? including the colormunki spectro? I'm curious.

The biggest difference for the color munki is that it uses plastic for the optics (i1Pro uses glass) and undoubtedly the plastic will age and yellow.

How bad is it?
How fast will it happen?
Those are questions I don't know the answer too.
