Directv HR-34 "Genie" setup

Hi Everyone,
I just got the new Diretv Genie installed today along with a client for the master bedroom TV. I have a question on how to obtain the best picture quality from this unit. I currently have my HR 34 HDMI plugged into my Denon AVR1713 receiver. From there I have a HDMI going into a Panasonic 55ST30 plasma TV. My question is regarding the resolutions and the native mode. On my old HR22, I believe the guy set up Native on and had all boxes under resolution checked as he said he believed the Panasonic would have better "upconversion" than my HR22. The new Tech today set it up with Native off and only 1080p and 1080i checked. Which way should i go? I do watch alot of sports, and programming that is broadcast such as on ESPN and Fox which I believe is 720p. Should I change it back to Native On? I do not care about the longer channel changing at all, just want the best possible picture. I am not sure if the new Genie has an advanced processor which would trump my Panasonic in that matter. Thanks Pete

Look at it both ways and if you can see any difference (I can't) then run it the way it looks best for you. I just have 1080i checked, no need for 1080p since I don't do PPV which is the only way you can get a 1080p signal. Native slows down channel changes so I don't use that. If you see a better picture with native on then leave it on.

Thoeretically you would probably get a better picture with native on, and all resolutions checked. The tech most likely set it up the way he did so they channel changes were faster and you were less likely to call and complain about something being wrong, which could hurt his pay (if someone has to come back to the house and work on something he did, then he loses money he would have got for that install).

So like joed32 said, try it both ways and see if you notice a difference. If so, and you are ok with the longer channel changes then go with native on.
