Powerful, 2-channel subwoofer amp for under $600?

Hey fellow bass-heads, figured you guys are the ones to ask. Just as the thread title states, I'm looking for about 1000w into 4ohms to drive two, dual 12-inch ported subs (Mcintosh HT-2's). Any suggestions would be awesome. My equipment will be going in a closet so fan noise won't matter. Obviously I would like to try to avoid any hum and if it has RCA's that would be great too. Receiver is the Sherwood R-972. Thanks in advance.

The crown-CE4000 will do 1kW x 2 @ 4ohms with 1% THD and great resistance to line sag. They're long since discontinued though, so you can only find them used.

Behringer Inuke NU6000DSP can be had for $500 new. It would give close to 1800W x2 @ 4ohm load. Very nice DSP.

Have those iNukes been 3rd party tested anywhere? For $400 shipped, I get skeptical about their performance. If they can do 1+kW x 2 @ 4ohms @ 20hz with 1% THD for at least a few seconds, then we have a winner of an amp for sure!

According to this testing they can do just over 2000 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Not too shabby!!

If you're not opposed to a pair, you can get two EP2500's for about 550.00. That's 1900 watts each for crazy headroom. biggrin.gif

"The Behringer was happy to drive 1 channel at 4 Ohms with no reduction in output at 1 minute. Power output was 2.27kW at 1kHz and 2.12kW at 31Hz. This demonstrates that the amp section should drive high power into 4 Ohms without any short-term limitation. 2.1kW x1 or 1.2kW x 2. Not too bad for $400 with DSP.
