JVC RS46U or JVC RS60U 3D ?

I currently own a JVC RS20U and I am looking to upgrade. It will be primarily for 2D viewing but would like to have the option for occational 3D. The screen is 120" Pifer Sheerweave in a light controlled room but with white ceilings and light colored walls.

My two options are :
1. a new RS46 with full warranty and a 1yr warranty on the lamp
2. a used RS60 3D with 300 hours on the current lamp and a new sealed gen 3 lamp.

They priced about the same. I am not sure if I should go with the older RS60 for the higher contrast or the newer RS46 with the same contrast as my older RS20 but brighter.

All suggestions / advice is welcome!

Thanks.

The RS46 is the better choice. The RS50/RS60 were 2 of the dimmest JVC's since the RS2. The RS46 is going to be noticeable brighter. This will allow you to close the iris for better contrast which could exceed the RS60 since you'll likely have to run with an open iris, or close to it.

as an FYI, the brightness was improved with last year's RS55/RS65.

How close is your screen to the ceiling? I recently blacked out my ceiling near the screen and it makes a huge difference. I know it's not practical for many setups, but it's definitely the best way to see the JVC's native contrast.

Thanks for the insight. The screen is about 3 feet from the ceiling.

Any other thoughts?

Zombie, How would you compare the Sony HW50ES with the JVC RS46U? Since I will need a anamorphic lens for the Sony, I was thinking of chnaging my order to the JVC RS46U.. I saw the lumens and contrast is lower than Sony, but JVC has better picture quality and Eshift 2. What are you thoughts?

AFAIK the RS46/X35 does not have Eshift2. It is only on the higher models.

That's right, Eshift2 is only from the RS48 on up
