Like the title says I'm currently looking for a new receiver for my home theater setup. My HT is located in our basement which is about 25-30 feet wide and about 12-15 feet deep with 8 foot ceilings. The stairway leads straight upstairs without any doorway so unfortunately it's very open acoustically.
Here's my current equipment:
Video: Panasonic AE2000U projector on an 86 inch screen
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V565
Front R/L: Klipsch Reference RF-82II
Center: Klipsch Reference RC-62II
Surround R/L: Klipsch Reference RS-42II
Sub: Klipsch Reference RW-12d
The receiver was originally purchased 4-5 years ago for $400 or so for the purpose of driving two relatively inexpensive front speakers. Everything around it has been upgraded since then and I figured it's probably a good time to look into stepping up a bit with the receiver. The receiver still works and has no problem driving the sensitive Klipsch speakers but I suspect that a higher end receiver with more modern features may do even better.
I'm pretty open and am not even 100% on Onkyo - it just seems like they do a pretty decent job in the price range I'm looking at. My criteria include:
I don't want to spend more than $1000 on a receiver
Decent room correction (which is why I prefer the 818 over the 717)
I may want to expand to 7.1 at some point or maybe add a second sub - but don't have current plans.
Features - I like the online audio streaming options on Onkyo for Pandora and Spotify. Capable video processing is also a plus since I'm sitting 12 feet away from an 86 inch screen - a non-HD source is painful.
I've been strongly considering the Onkyo TX-NR818 but would like to hear some opinions on if this is a good choice or what else I should consider. Additionally, there's someone locally selling an Onkyo TX-NR809 for $400 new in an unopened box. Is there enough of a deference between the 809 and 818 to justify an additional $500 or so? I know there is a big Audyssey upgrade with the 818 which is something I really wanted. I've heard that the video processing has improved with each model year on the Onkyos as well? Does anyone have any opinion in that regard?
Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks!
