I have a Yamaha htr 4065 with pioneer speakers with fairly low sensitivity. In order to watch movies and comfortably hear dialogue I have to turn the volume up to -15 to -10 db. At this level movies sound very good, but at night it'll wake up the kids. Yamaha has adaptive dynamic range which is for nighttime viewing, but at high volume levels it dissapears. At lower volume levels it equalizes the range. My problems is that at lower volume levels I can't hear the dialogue even with adaptive drc on. So in order to make adrc more effective for night time viewing I was thinking of increasing all of my speakers levels +10, so adrc could possibly be more effective. The reciever also has a setting for max volume with is +16.5 db. I was thinking that in order to safe proof me from going to loud I would lower the maximum volume to +5 db. Does this sound safe?
