Perhaps you guys can test this for me: Hookup the TV303D to your TV (through HDMI, TV without dts support). On the Dune, set the audio to HDMI Original (Bitstream) 7.1. Then, play a few movies with DTS5.1 track.

If you're "bitstreaming" to a device that doesnt support that audio codec, it wont work. Which you've stated your AVR can't. So you need to set the Dune to "decode" before sending to the AVR.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you're trying to do.

Will the mini be available in the US and also, is there any benefit in getting this over the 303?

Also, do the 303s do a good job with 23.976
I know the D1 did a great job

mini will be available in the US. I honestly see no reason to get the Zapp player over the standard Dune just simply because of the extra premium, especially now that you can boot directly into Zappiti. You do get the Zappiti music jukebox if you would like that, and whatever other "enhancements" the Zapp developers might have planned. I think as well updating fw is a different step then how you do through the Dunes (maybe someone with a Zapp player can confirm t his)

Surprisingly that with bitstreaming, my Sony (which doesn't support DTS) is picking up LPCM 2ch. I've also attached the screenshot in previous post.

According to the specs here, "HD audio support: pass-through (up to 7.1 channels)." is officially stated. This statement is definitely missing from the main Dune's site.

In theory even those specs are incorrect as it mentions downmix to PCM (you need to apply the patch to get PCM downmix of DTS).

As well those specs still show MVC as a supported video format which we all know isn't true.

HDMI's EDID feature allows the receiver (or TV) to tell the Dune what formats it supports. The Dune then detects that bitstream of DTS is not supported, so it decodes it to LPCM and sends that instead.

Is this causing a problem for you?

Yes the mini should be available in the US.

The difference between the mini and the 303 is only software. The mini came with Zappiti full licence that included the music jukebox and also all the "coming soon" Zappiti dynamic functions..

As for the 23.976, yes the 303 do a really good job.

EDID seems like the best explanation. Thank you very much for the hint.

Can anyone tell me, what audio DAC is in Dune HD Base 3D ? Chipset, name or technical parameters...
I manage to replicate the "random noise" issue that some users have complaint by playing different file types (with different audio encoding). When the video is played but without audio, stopping the video, which then returns to the menu, will generate the loud noise. When watching a movie (such as MKV file), jumping to a time (by the up/down button on remote) can create the weird noise too. Pressing pause then resume/play will the solve the noise issue. Perhaps the audio fails to catchup with the video frame.

I hope the next firmware, B7, can solve this issue.

Is the Base 3D infected with cinavia?

No, because it doesn't have a Blu-ray licence that enables it to play the menus. Anything that is manufactured after Feb 2012 that does have a Blu-ray licence will have Cinavia enabled.

Good to know, thanks.

303D/base are the only choices now. Looks like the H-1 is gone.

If I have receiver that support DTS HT, HD Dolby, is It ok to turn off EDID? I am trying if there is reason to turn it off or on. I turned off it thinking that it will turn on/off devices automatically and some times confusing. I always use Logitech remote to start activity.

I think you are confusing EDID with CEC. It's always safe to turn off CEC.

Sorry. Yes. I always turn off CEC and I turned off EDID also. If my receiver has all audio decoders, not sure if the protocol overhead might delay or confuse devices. I do bitstream from Dune.

How to set the TV303D to always prefer external SRT subtitle (if available) instead of internal embedded subtitle?

SETUP > PLAYBACK > SUBTITLES > DEFAULT SUBTITLE PREFERENCE FOR FILES

I have some questions about the dune base 3d i might be interested in replacing my popcorn hour a-300 with one

ive always used popcorn hours so here is some questions

right now my setup is as follows

i have one flash drive plugged into the front of my popcorn hour and a usb hub plugged into the back with 7 2tb drives and 1 3tb would this work on the dune base 3d?

i will most likely only be using the basic file browser

Can i copy from drive to drive through ui?

I have all drives attached to my popcorn hour showing on my windows pc can I accomplish this with the dune?

can i mark things as watched in basic file browser?

does internal drive need to be formatted? is there apps that need to be installed?

What are current known bugs?

Coming from popcorn hour is there auto framerate and any issues with it?

I think I read there is a headphone jack on this can someone confirm that?

Is there a usb slave?

This is included in the standard unit? HDD Rack Option with Hot Swap
Function does this mean I can take the drive out plug and play basically?

ive read about some audio issues can anyone go into detail on those?

i think thats all my questions for now if i can get answers to these it would be greatly appreciated

Recently picked up a 303D. Blu-rays I have recently ripped to mkv with Makemkv will not play. They play fine on my Mede8er and PC. All have all been ripped with the HD audio track. I am bit streaming to a Denon 4811. I am wondering where to start trouble shooting. 303D is setup to bitstream audio.

Thanks,
Did you update to the latest firmware? I don't have any issues with MKV files done with MakeMKV.
Updated to B6, then backed down to B5, no luck with either.

Thanks,

I assume these are 2D Blu ray rips and not 3D Blu ray rips, correct?

2D. Puzzling. I haven't isolated True HD vs. DTS-HD yet. I will do some sampling tonight. So far the few I have tried have all been DTS.

That is odd, I have no issues with mkvs (DTSMA or TrueHD) if bitstreaming. Could it possibly be one of the video settings that is off. Do you have auto framerate on?

Not experiencing these problems and I rip everything with Makemkv, but go into an Onkyo amp via hdmi not optical and via bitstream

Tried with auto framerate on and off. Beginning to wonder if it has anything to do with my Lumagen settings.
Lumagen ?

Check here from post #129 and after : http://www.avforums.com/forums/streamers-network-media-players/1554496-dune-hd-smart-h1-owners-thread-5.html

It's for a smart but should work in the same way for a 303d (except that you can't turn Hdmi CEC off with the 303d...)
