How does the Dune know what it's playing? Isn't the video the same format (m2ts) regardless of whether it's a trailer/preview or not?

From my understanding, they don't have the BD license, so no menu support. Other wise you'd have cinavia, which nobody wants.

OK. Let me ask some other basic questions.

1) If I copy/rip an iso, you are saying that only the main movie will play on the dune, right?
2) If it is a 3D disk, then the movie will play in 3D, right?
3) Do I need to copy/rip and store 2 .iso files of the same movie if I want to watch it in 3D or 2D?

Also, don't forget, the Dune 3d will not play subtitles in an .ISO format.

MKV files doesn't support 3D.

I know Dune is looking into the subtitle .ISO issue, but not sure about the MKV 3d issue. Either way you will lose on something as it stands now.

I thought it was only the forced subs that were a problem.

MKV does support 3D, MakeMKV can rip to MVC MKV, the mede8er players handle 3D MKV files fine. Dune and PCH don't support MVC MKV files.

And just to go off this a bit I doubt we will see support for it in anything else, PC based players are not even supporting it with the only one being stereoscopic player which is hit or miss. Until other players jump on board and other software rippers, its looking like a dead format at the risk of encoding everything over to mvc/mkv then when the only player that supports is no longer around you have to re rip your whole library again. I would love to see mkv/mvc be widely used as I hate ISO files but its not looking like its going to happen. Not to mention last I herd they never did agree on a standard way for mkv. Makemkv just happens to do it one way and the people really do not like it you can read some of the discussion here

I'm sorry... I meant in relation to the dune 3d. Thanks for making that clearer.

Looks like this is more of an issue with HD audio tracks (dts-HD especially)

Damian and all, any idea if Dune is aware of this issue.
I don't recollect the dune smart boxes suffering from this

Hoops2 ; dont have a dune [tvix3ds2 ] but in relation to choosing the dvdfab main movie profile for 3d frame packed you can buy the bd copy module to get the latest coding . I use 3d bd ripper myself to make smaller file sizes m2ts 3d's but you can use the free hd decrypter to make a main movie iso ;its pretty intuitive and it helps the file size some smile.gif

For question 3 one iso is fine any player will just choose the left or right frame or you can adjust your panel /projector and even some active 3d glasses cool.gif Some bd boxsets have separate 3d/2d discs and some have both on the one ; these multiple disc/download file types can even be conditional on which country you buy from so it pays to check say amazon uk as well as the original sometimes ..

don't need menus, alternate languages, alternate audio, previews,
That's doable with fab 3d ripper ; I just pick 1 lossless track and 1 eng subtitle file and hit remux [ another benefit of the m2ts profile ] . An iso or using bd copy to make a folder you get sometimes 10 or more different language subtitles as well as lossy soundtracks tongue.gif I only make iso's when a problem disc turns up with the subs out of sync or something otherwise shrinking the files i cant pick the difference wink.gif

We're all waiting for Dune to fix the annoying audio bug (loud white noise, audio hiccup, etc)

What the **** that isn't fixed yet? Why not??? I had a small problem like that with beta 3. Now I have beta 6 running and couldn't see/hear that problem anymore but it's still there? How is that possible.....

Secondly what about the subtitles. When you have a BDMV folder (2D) and play the movie you can't use the existing embedded subtitles anymore? Wtf?

Which issue specifically, I haven't run into this with the beta 6 fw (the DTSMA issues I had was with the older fw)

What do you mean you cannot use, you can't select the subtitle track?

I am currently using 130114_1511_b3
How do I get beta6. The firmware upgrade menu on the dune shows beta 4 available

With my current firmware I see audio drops with dts-hd after pausing and resuming playback

You need to continue the updating process, until you reach the most current firmware. You cannot get beta 6, until you've updated to the previous others. I must have updated my 303D four times in a row out of the box, until I got to the most current one..

b3 is a bad one which is why you are still seeing the DTS bug. Update as per L33TX43RT

Power cycle the unit, from the switch in the back. Try again. Make sure your Internet network is properly connected to the unit.

Same thing every time frown.gif
I wonder if the box is switching o/p video resolution

This isn't good.

THIS IS A LAST RESORT... If you're stuck, you may want to perform a factory reset with this file on your DUNE player, and wipe the flash memory. Simply put this file in a shared folder or usb drive to your DUNE player, and execute it from your DUNE browser.

Afterwards, try the update process again.

Ok upgraded off flash instead and that worked

Weird. Thanks guys

Is it possible to downgrade a firmware? (example from b6 to b5).
Is there any extra procedure?
I haven't dared to try it, but I do not see why not. However, I have noticed some performance issues with the newest beta. *notes downgrading to self*

Yes, you can downgrade

Had a bit of a breakthrough today, streaming high bitrate MKVs via PLEX Media Server, wireless to the DUNE player w/ Plex plugin. I just ran through an entire movie of Prometheus peaking at 35.7 Mbps, without a single hiccup on DTS HD-MA. I confirmed this with a skimming through my other 1:1 MKV rips, to make sure it's not a fluke. On the plus-side, PLEX Media Server supports Movies, TV, and music. The software it still in its early stages, so it's a tad buggy which can be worked around. Furthermore, I'm happy with the results so far.

The Dune client is called Emplexer. It's still in beta, yet the author is regularly on his own forum to oversee the feedback coming in, and resolving current issues with the software.

Can you tell me if you used NFS? If so, please let me know your settings on the Dune (for emplexer). I have not been able to get this to work (using plex). I do see my movie posters, but clicking them won't start playback.

I am going to continue to use my 400 disc changers until I'm completely backed up, at which time I'll swap out the changers in the rack for Dune media players. I don't have the players yet. My question is, can I install YaDis in advance on the server so I can scrape as I go and have it all done in advance?

Is the downgrading process 100% same as upgrading? Select the dff file and hit enter?

I haven't fiddled with it much, and still have it on "http", which the lag is terrible. As far as your problem goes, make sure you Plex IP settings are the same as the computer Plex is installed on, with the default port number "32400".

Yep. I tried downgrading yesterday, and it's the same. The only files available are b5 and b6.

Oh, nice find. I was referring to the firmware released available on-screen, through the DUNE player. biggrin.gif
