The test was made in my dedicated HT on my 110" Da-Lite JKP Affinity 1.1, JVC X35, 9.1 Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A 3020, Lumagen Mini 3D, Darblet Darbee processor. The picture was calibrated with my X-Rite Display 3 PRO colorimeter,so everything was optimally.
I heard a lot of comments regarding the PQ between the old Dune 3.0 with the new one 3D, as being the same...nothing is more false than that.
Dune Base 3D is better in every way, picture wise, compared with my Dune Base 3.0,i didn't expect that and it was a huge surprise.
The new Dune has a better depth, sharpness, less noise in the picture, the all picture is more solid with a better separation between different plans, also the colors seems a little bit better and also the contrast.I liked very much the dimensionality on the new Base 3D,is like i was watching a 3D picture without the glasses.
I watch only at full blu-ray rips and everything i was throwing on Base 3D worked perfectly.
I didn't have any problem to send to my Yamaha in bitsteam DTS-HD Master Audio or True-HD ,all played very well (this was my main concern before this test).
The conclusion is that my new player will be Dune Base 3D and will replace my old Base 3.0

Very interesting findings, but there isn't a whole lot that the Base3D can do that would explain these differences, especially with good sources like BD rips. How do you explain what you saw?

I have 2 shared folders on a drive (music and pictures) attached to a PC (no passwords on either).
Without doing anything special beyond the share, the pictures folder shows up in my dune HD base 3.0, but not the music folder.
So, I mapped the music folder to a drive letter hoping it would show up, but no go.

Try creating a Network Shortcut on the Dune, instead of using the network browser.

I saw some advice to press the Popup button on the Dune remote to create a Network shortcut, but no such option appears when I try it.
Is this the correct method to create a shortcut? Perhaps one must be at the right folder level to get this option??

I also saw this info here: http://scottjohnson.org/wiki/Dune/SMB_Share_Limit
The Dune is limited to mounting only one SMB share per SMB server at any given time.

So I wonder if I should get a NFS client and switch from SMB to NFS and see if things work better?

Here some other things I found which I will try later:
1) You need to be on the Sources tab with Network selected and then the shortcut option should be on the pop-up menu.
2) Make sure the PC is part of a Workgroup: http://www.avforums.com/threads/dune-hd-smart-h1-connecting-to-windows-7-pc.1595722/
To join a Workgroup:
right click on 'Computer' and select 'Properties' (or 'Control Panel' > System' gets you to the same place)
click on 'Advanced system settings' on the left hand side
click on the 'Computer Name' tab
this should tell you if the PC is in a Workgroup, and if so what it is called.
if not in a Workgroup then click on 'Change' and under 'Member of' click the Workgroup and enter a Workgroup name to the same name as the Workgroup the Dune is in - from Dune:
Setup > Applications > SMB Server
Enabled: Yes
Server name:

You might need to have System Storage installed in order to create network shortcuts.

The SMB share limit should not be a problem for you at this time, but if you use indexing software (Zappiti, MyMovies, etc) it might be.

I also found NFS easier to configure on Windows than SMB which requires all kinds of mysterious (to me) wizardry to get working, only to have it stop working after the next Windows update.

Thanks for the replies Scott.
Which NFS client are you using as I'll try and get the same..... just in case?

I do have an internal HDD and am currently running Zappiti.
I don't like that if I delete a movie/show after I watch it, then the next time Zappiti is launched (typically at power-on) it complains with error messages until I "clean" & remove the deleted items from Zappiti.
Curious which Dune artwork program you ended up with as Zappiti is just my first shot at this (yaDis, TViXe, MyMovies,...)

I'm not using an NFS client anymore. I used one on WinXP years ago but I don't remember which one. (My movies are on a FreeBSD server.)

I use MyMovies but heavily customized. My wiki explains some of those customizations. I couldn't get Zappiti to work the one time I tried it, and never tried Yadis or the others.

The differences are because the newer processors from Sigma are better, don't forget that Dune Base 3.0 is a 4 years model and in this business is a lot.
This is the main reason i think.
I repeat again...i didn't expect that and it was a huge surprise.
I wonder how is standing Dune Base 3D against Popcorn A-400,regarding PQ.

But does a 4-year-old Blu-ray player have a significantly worse picture than a new one? I think not. All it has to do is decompress the video and send the bits out the HDMI port. Provided it doesn't screw that up (although many do) there's not a whole lot of room for improvement when it comes to PQ.
I watch only full blu-ray rips, remux made with DVDFAB.All the time the movie stream is untuched,so i guess is uncompressed.
When I FTP (from a PC over gigabit Ethernet) to an idle Dune Base 3D 3.0 I get about 21+MB/sec (nice).
If I start playing a 1080p movie from the Dunes internal HD, then it drops to 800k/sec

Is this typical?

So after trying EVERYTHING above, I still couldn't get the SMB share to be seen by the DUNE.
The DUNE could see my PC, but it would not list my shares even after making the network short-cut.
Next, I wasted time and activated the "Window Media Player Network Sharing Service" and got that running. It had to index tons of media files and that took forever to complete. Eventually, my content showed up in DUNEs Network Multimedia devices tab. But talk about sloooow. It was unbearable... so I turned that service back off and went back to the grindstone.

Eventually, I discovered the Windows 7 Advanced Sharing Settings Dialog box (Control Panel ->Network and Sharing Center->Change advanced sharing settings). Under File sharing connections, change to Enable file sharing for devices that use 40-or 56-bit encryption. Voila!!! The DUNE would now show my shares!!! Apparently, the DUNE does not like 128-bit encryption. Next, I created some more shares that didn't show up, but that was because I forgot to add the share permissions for group EVERYONE to the new shares.

Hello,
I just received my new Base 3D and i can't find to make it work the external subtitles when i start the movie from BD-Lite.
With my old Bese 3.0 it was possible.
There is a setting or something to resolve this thing?

Hey.
i am green to this streaming thing. But have purchassed a Dune HD base 3D.
Playing via HDMI to my Antrhem avm50v processer. Bitstreaming. Everything is working nice (using zappiti ) concert ni ISO , and BD movies is MKV. But there is a litlle glitch. Sometimes when i starting a movie or a kconcert, there is comming a high burst/pitch from the speakers. Pause only corses the burst to disapear - the pitching is still there. if i jump out of the movie and back again. The noise disapear. And the right audio is comming. I can also go from another audiotrack to another , and it will disapear. I'am using a nas server for storage.
Any thoughts on this issue. I have never experiened the issue with my Oppo player. My setings - audio Bitstream 5.1. Video 1050/50 - 24/25/50. When the issue is there , i can see that the incomming signal is pcm - not bistream
Hope someone have some good ideases
thank :-)
hope you understand my pure english

Denmark

edit . from what i can see , the firmare is the latest. Thats what ther player said when locking for the latest - beta is set to not ignore

Looked all over and can't find my answer….. So, is there a way to eject an external HD safely w/out turning off Dune TV303D? I thought highlighting drive, pressing info would do the trick, but no luck. Thxs in advance

This happens to me especially on MP4 files.

Same here, I would suggest making a support ticket.

I reported this behavior over 6 months ago !! Never could figure out the issue.

I m looking for a non-HTPC solution for the playback of my 3D .ISO content. Does the Dune Base 3D player play them (no menu's needed) without problems and without the so-called 24Hz bug?

You will run into issues if you want forced subtitles (not supported) or are playing back a seamless branch ISO

What are forced subtitles?

Best example would be District 9 (when the aliens speak) or Avatar (when they speak Navii). The english translation appears on the screen for those parts

But I m from the Netherlands and always enable Dutch subtitles so this has nothing to do with that right?

If you play subtitles throughout the movie then correct, it would not affect you.

thanks. And what is the difference between the Popcorn Hour A-400 and Dune Base 3D when I m only interested in playing 3D .iso (no menu needed)

As far as playback functionality they are pretty much identical. Main differences would be the chip used (different versions of Sigma) and different UIs/jukeboxes that could be used (PCH also has an internal jukebox if you want to manage directly from the player).

Hell! You are fast with your replies man! smile.gifsmile.gif

Is the support on the Dune 3D dead because there has not been any new firmware since May this year?

Support isn't dead, this is typically what we see with Dune. They seem to do a lot of testing in house before the users see it (different from PCH which has a more active community in terms of fw/beta testing).. I wouldn't put one above the other, except for the fact it does stink when you go through these long "quiet" periods

I tried to type this post as slow as possible tongue.gif
post #868 of 1165
It has been far too long this time for dune to get out an update.
There is bugs that need fixing and dune is not coming to the party.
I own 3 dunes and this year is the worst for dune support I can remember.
Surely they could put out just a firmware with most important fixes --even one fix at a time.
Sorry last one since may is just not good enough.
Dune is now concentrating on the dune tv market and this has been commented on over the nett from what I read awhile back.
Dune is leaving their customers out to dry with support and has been gradually getting worse.
Its basically they are dead with any sort timely fixes:mad:
I agree with you...this is the longest period for Dune without releasing a new firmware.
I hope we will able to hear some news from them....when they will adress the current problems on their Dune Base 3D.

Hello !!!!???........Dune...........are u there?
What are the bugs that has not been solved yet?
