Ok, enough is enough. I have an Onkyo DX-C390 CD player in my modern system. Well, in the past 6 months it has tried to eat a CD 3 times! So each time I've had to shut everything down, pull the entertainment center away from the wall, disconnect the CD player, take it out, open it up, retrieve the errant CD and put it back together. Then put the CD player back, connect it up and move the entertainment center back. It's a royal PITA!
It did it again today, so that's it! We are done.
In reality the Onkyo DX-C390 is one of the better designed carousal CD players made. It is well designed by most respects and so simple in design that the village idiot could probably work on it. (I've been successful every time on it). It also has a decent dac for what it is. However, now the party is over that it's developed a hunger to try to eat CDs once in a while.
So now I want to save up for a new CD player and this time, want something a little bit more upscale if you will.
While I like the convenience of a carousal player, I have no problem going to a single drawer. My budget will be $200 to $1000 max, but I would like something significantly less than the max. I do not want a slot loader. It can be a drawer loader or even a top loader anything but slot-loading. I don't care what color it is or anything like that. I'm also going new, not used.
So could you please recommend some CD players to consider.
I'm currently running a Onkyo TX-R705 and have my Onkyo CD player connected via fiber-optic. I'm looking for something that will play CD-rs as well. I don't have any SACDs or HDCDs so that is of no concern.
I am looking for a dedicated CD player. Call me oldschool, but I prefer the right tool for the right job.
Thank you.
