Peace of Mind - Boston - Boston

Crushcrushcrush - Paramore - Riot!
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet - Get Born

I see that Seaton was awarded Best Value Award at AXPONA 2013, which was this past weekend. At least now if you buy them after hearing them at the Iowa GTG you can tell your wife they were recently awarded as "Best Value" as you write out your check for $13k (with two subs). biggrin.gif

Color me impressed as value for the dollar today goes to the Seaton Sound self-powered, massive 2000 watts large full range speaker. It uses ICE power to drive two 12" drivers and a BNC 8" coax unit. These are called the Catalyst mains are only $4000 each, with the matching SubMersive subwoofer chiming in at $2545. Yup, these sweet speakers have definitely earned by Best Value Award at AXPONA 2013.

David, are these the speakers that Mark is bringing?

eek.gif Maybe I don't want to come after all. Sounds like an expensive weekend . . .

Yes, the catalysts are "value" priced compared to most of the speakers at the show.

I am not sure the ETM guys actually got to listen to them. I came back to the Seaton room multiple times trying to catch a demo of some sorts and each time there were crowds of loudly talking people with some music/video on the back ground. I have to say that was very different from most other rooms at the show. You guys are lucky, you will actually get to listen to these.

Mark hasn't decided which speakers he will bring yet. I'll post as soon as I know.

Hah! I'm sure that will make all the difference! rolleyes.gif But really, I hope Mark brings the Cat12's over the Cat8's. I'm really excited to get a chance to listen to these, I bet my wife can't wait for me to shut up about it as well, lol. biggrin.gif

David, I thought I'd posted here already, but I'm highly interested if other events allow. Put me down as a strong possible.

David,

Take a look at some of these and see if you like any of them. I can chop any of them up using the MPtrim tool I have into shorter sections.

Enya - Orinoco Flow (clean electronic)
Ellie Goulding - Lights (electronic intro)
David Gray - Babylon (acoustic and drums)
Dropkick Murphys - Cadence to Arms (bagpipe check for harsh?)
Jack Johnson - Upside Down (acoustic)
Perez Prado - The Peanut Vendor (Brass / Trumpet)
INXS - Elegantly Wasted (male vocal/rock/guitar)
Propellerheads - On her Majesty's Secret Service (stereo imaging)
Styx - Come Sail Away (piano)
DJ Tinman - Stars (techno - full range)
Baltimora - Tarzan Boy (80's turn it up feel good)
Bruno Mars - Locked out of Heaven (dynamics, fun vocals)
Filter - Take a Picture - (acoustic, bass)
Vast - Free (heavy bass feel at intro)

If you don't have spotify - it would be great for a meet like this - you can just pick make a playlist and if you pay $10 a month (First month is free) you can download high quality bitrate songs. 360kb/sec mp3. 160kb/sec mp3's are free account. They have TONS of stuff, and you can pick anything you want on demand - as if they were your mp3's...no ads either. could be an excellent way to have access to any music at your fingertips for a meet like this.

Thanks for the list Archaea. I'll check them out. Usually I just use MOG so hopefully they are all there.

March 12th Update

To make things a little more interesting we are going to start the day BLIND. All too often the feedback I hear after many audio events is that the participants wish they could hear the same song on all the speakers consecutively. So let's make it happen. We are going to have all the speakers behind acoustic transparent material for the first 90 minutes of the day. We will play one song on all the speakers that are attending the event and then move onto the second song. We will do this for the 5 blind songs. Once we have played the 5 songs on all the speakers we will then take requests from the participants in the blind format. Once the blind requests have been completed we will remove the acoustic transparent material and start the formal listening sessions for each individual speaker.

So I need a wide variety of songs for the blind comparison - 5 songs that will show off different attributes and capabilities of all the different types of speakers that will be present. So, let the suggestions begin. And let me know the playing range of a song if you would only want a portion of the song played.

The KC group has been talking about it, good chance a few of us will make the trip.

Phil Bamberg has had the Series 5-TMW speakers available in St. Louis the past week for some auditions. You can read some comments on AudioCircle from the auditions. There are also some more pictures of the speakers.
Hey David, if you think there's enough room I would like to be added to the list.

As for the KC guys, I can be the bus driver again if need be.

You're in. Still don't have 25 confirmed. At 19 now.
Great to hear we have a set of Ultra towers added - really want to hear them.

As far as music, I would really like to start getting away from my 80's one hit wonders and hair bands so I will defer to everyone else on that. wink.gif

That makes five of us I think from KC that plan to come down. Suburban sounds good if you can borrow it again this trip? Carp are you bringing your 212HT or is somebody else bringing theirs? David are we playing or skipping the 228HT? I'm glad to see the ultras will be there too. That looks like a sharp speaker and It'll be fun to hear something else new. If mr smithers comes he could probably bring his SEOS DIY speakers as well.

I believe Jeff is bringing the 212's. I would like Archaea to bring his 228's but I want to make sure we have enough time to evaluate 6 sets of speakers. Lets ponder and keep that option open.

Well, I'm going to start the nomination list for some of the 5 Blind songs. I don't mean for these to be "the" five because they are not diversified enough.

Angel - Sarah McLachlan
The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn - Allison Kraus & Union Station
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
Hallelujah - Brandi Carlile
Looking for a Home - Keith Greeninger (DSD)
Paper Airplane - Allison Kraus
My Love Is - Diana Krall
Joe Satriani - Rubina?

That's it for now. More later.

Like the Angel and Rubina tracks - I think they are both great choices. The only other one I am familiar with is Money for Nothing, but that has more to do with hearing it over and over again on the radio ____ (insert massive number of years here) years ago.

What about a track from the Blue Man Group? No vocals, but a lot of varied percussion and guitar action. Something like TV Song, or Rods and Cones?

Please God not the Angel Sarah M song. Please......I'm begging you.

Doesn't desertdome have some other stuff like poop and pipes? eek.gif
