65VT50, to buy or not to buy? - Page 2

Thanks all for the replies and feedback on Paul's. Sounds like a great place to buy from, and their current price sure is unbeatable. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that their third-party delivery company does not fully install the TV (i.e: mount it on the stand, etc). This could potentially be an issue for me since more than likely I wouldn't be able to be home at the time of delivery due to my crazy work schedule (my wife would) and I do not really have any friends nearby that could give me a hand afterwards, and as you know it takes at least two to do this properly (my 65V10 weighs almost 180lbs!). Still pulling my hair out on this decision. After being burned with the 65V10, I don't want to have to upgrade TV's in at least 5/6 years, if not longer. That was the goal when I bought the V10, and now it seems it will have its life span cut in half. $2500 out the door for the VT50 is amazing, but that ZT60 is keeping me awake at night as well... I could stretch it, but I wonder if it'd be really worth it... The joys of being a videophile... I miss the days when all I cared about was actually watching movies... wink.gif

How did you get burned on the V10?

I'm only surmising here, but that model is a ticking time bomb thanks to the rising black level phenomenon.

Sadly, you assume correctly. See this thread.

LOL....BB does a good enough job themselves, and has for several years. They don't need help from Paul's! tongue.gif

I personally would not, who know what kind of content they played - they might have left a DVD menu on pause for days at a time. Showrooms tend to have the screen set to torch mode with Contrast at 100 and Vivid setting.

Listen to teh guys, get a new one at a great price or wait for the 2013s if you dont mind paying for the premium

Just got off the phone with Best Buy. They do have one LAST 65VT50, They are asking $3K,. I mentioned the Paul's deal, $2500 out the door with free delivery and no tax, but apparently their price-match policy changed this past Sunday. They offered me $2600 plus tax. Free delivery. Still seems high, but I will go there in person myself after work and speak to the manager. Hopefully they can REALLY price-match Paul's. The only reason why I would go with Best Buy in this case is because I am a Silver member (so basically I would be getting the $200 difference back in the form of points) and they offer a 60-day return policy. We'll see how it goes.

A side note/question: my 65V10 has 3 HDMI inputs on the back, plus one more on the side. The VT50 and (it seems) the VT60 models all have inputs on the side ONLY (and the 60's all have 3 inputs instead of 4). Anybody had any issues hiding/managing 2 or 3 quality (i.e.: thick) HDMI cables behind the panels? I'm confused as to why they don't give you the option of having at least one BACK input anymore... It's a little bit of a shame to have such a nice looking display with cables sticking out on one of the sides...

Nope no issues with the side inputs, and i had a REALLY thick HDMI cable that bent just out of view. It was easily twice as thick as normal HDMI cables. I'm currently using a redmere cable and you should have no issues concealing that.
