Samsung HLP6163WX/XAA, bought at Circuit City (remember them?) back around Feb 2005. It was a display model from I think the 2004 model year.
In the last couple of years I've replaced the color wheel, and then last fall the lamp.
A couple weeks back it started acting up again. Out of no where, as these things seem to be…
No picture on the display. Doesn't seem to want to respond to power off or any other buttons on the remote. So I unplug, let it sit and plug it back in.
Power it on (as it turns out I don't think the power button did anything), the lamp is lit up but nothing on screen. Then eventually it power cycles itself - or looks like it, and then tries to display something but the input isn't picked up (shows me what port's selected HDMI in this case) and I see a flash of various colors, kinda like the old horizontal & vertical hold when the OTA signal wasn't quite right.
I think that happened about a grand total of once, after that it's just no picture even though the lamp would still light and I can tell the screen was getting some light to it (lightens up vs being completely dark).
Call a tech, they come out and diagnose it as digital board. Fine, we order it and he comes out to give it a shot. No dice. Now the diagnosis is DMD board. And, symptoms changed slightly as now the LAMP LED flashes but the lamp is NOT on. Fans are spinning, and I think the tech had said the color wheel was too. After a few seconds, maybe 5 or so I hear some kind of pop out of the speakers, faintly. Almost like it reached the end of its power up cycle and that's when it would have displayed the picture if there was one to display.
Keep in mind all that happens just by plugging it in. Push a power button you get nada. Maybe if I let it sit it'll do something else but so far that's been it.
Reviewing some troubleshooting flowcharts seem to point to DMD but looking for another opinion on that matter. From what I see it's entirely possible the lamp won't light and it be the DMD and not a ballast. At this point I wonder if we have multiple failures. With the digital board swap doing nothing I am not confident that diagnosis was correct.
Thanks.
