As one poster said although the different projection calculators may not be super accurate they at least give you some idea when doing a comparison.
Your go-to calculator should be the Elite developed by Coderguy. For any projector you are going to get a throw range - closest, farthest and the default mid range.
For the two projectors you're comparing neither is ideal for a 165" diagonal screen without increasing the gain to around 1.3. In 'Best Mode - Low Lamp' you want to achieve 12-16 fL in a dark home theater environment. The Elite calculator shows the BenQ is the brightest of the two. Keeping your present 1.0 gain screen and mounting the projector at its closest distance (13 feet 10 inches) you can achieve 12.6 fL...but it drops off to 9 fL at 500 hours of use.
So if brightness is your sole criteria then the BenQ wins. What projector were you using previously to light this screen? Was it a conference/classroom ultra-bright projector?
